With the development of improved and reliable jet engines, aviation entered a new age. Jet-powered fighters already saw service during the Second World War, and showed superior performance over standard piston-powered aircraft. The US was one nation that quickly started on the development path of jet-powered fighters, leading to the creation of the North American F-86 Sabre, one of the most iconic fighter aircraft in aviation history.
