I was 8 years old then! I wouldn't start playing drums for another year. I didn't really get heavy in to hard rock until 88-90. By the time I started getting in bands the who9acene changed. It was like I was super cool for a couple years with girls chasing me through the halls, only to have depressed, angry Nirvana types make the girls ugly and sullen. That was my 9/10th grade years. In 9th I did start a metal band with a childhood friend that endures to this day. It will be 30 years in 2022! Yeah, I've had plenty of opportunities, but I never loved any music more than Hard Rock. Looking back that 89/90 year was surreal. All my favorite songs were played on the radio and MTV. Glad you got to experience it! I did play drums in an 80's hair band tribute called RockStar in Detroit from 2009-2014. The singer we hired took over the band after I left. One of my very best friends plays drums with them currently. Back in the day we'd have epic drum jams. He'd bring his set over to my house and vice versa. We played all those great songs!

Around 87 ( I was 17) I auditioned for a number of bands. I had short hair so a lot of bands wouldn't even consider me despite the fact that I'd been playing for 9 years. One band gave me a shot. The drummer was in the corner doing his own thing when I started playing. He perked up & said "Fuck Dude, you sound like George Lynch." And just like that, my ego grew 3 sizes.

True but, his voice is shot now. He has no upper range. He sings well below what he use to. And, he has to use so much nasality to even get anything mid-range. There's no power to his voice anymore. He sang too much and smoked too much. Completely blew out and shot his chords. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do as a singer. Around 1995 his voice started to go. His range dropped from 1996-2008. Anything from 2009 to present is either low or slightly mid-range. He probably hasn't hit a high note since 1995, 26 years ago.

I really wish that I was alive at the time of the 80's, it's just that there's just some sort of magic only exclusive to that time, and every time I look at a music video from the 80's, it's like looking through a window, being able to see something, but not interact with it.

How cool, I was stationed at Schofield Barracks Oahu, Hawaii. My newlywed wife had never been to a rock concert before. Parents wouldn't let her back home in Illinois. We went to Honolulu to see Dio with Viv Campbell and the opening act was Dokken. Fall of 1984. Awesome . Another memory were 3 Marines smoking a bowl of Hawaiin . Police came up behind them and they got caught. I felt something land on my foot. They threw their baggie down, so I put my shoe over it . Kept them from getting busted. I clearly remember Ronnie encased in a laser beam. Dokken took the stage like a storm. Don is a great guitarist also. Hopefully history repeats itself and my grandkids can experience music where the singer can sing without auto-tune ,the guitarist doesn't just strum chords, and the drums are actually played, not a programmed machine.

Personally I feel if they had not went on the Monsters of Rock Tour and headlined it like they were originally going to do they would have stayed together as the original members of a lot longer. But they are a much underrated van I mean there is no one who can touch George Lynch! And wild Mick Brown was the reason I got into drums. I was desperately in love with Mick Brown! And it infuriates me when people refer to 80s metal as hair metal that is the most derogatory term you could use. They were so much more than that they got a lot of kids through a lot of BS through their teenage years. If it wasn't for the song The Hunter I don't know if I ever would have made it to see my twenties. As always Rockin with Dokken

I saw them live at an outdoor venue, and I'm proud of the fact that I did not knock over any of the cones that the cops would set up as you left the concert. I just missed them by inches!! lol!

This is George Lynch's best solo and a instructional video on how to use multiple techniques to build tension and dynamics in a guitar solo. Trying to learn this song on guitar.
