Dolly has orchestrated a MASSIVE literacy program that donates tons of books to children in under-served areas. She was inspired by her father, who was incredibly intelligent, but was never taught to read. Not having that skill held him back and limited his potential, and Dolly didn't want any other person to go through that. She founded the Imagination Library, which delivers books to about 1.3 MILLION children **each month.** I listen to zero country music nowadays, but for so many reasons, Dolly is absolutely a personal hero and role model to me. (Sevier County/Dollywood is right down the road from me, so my family and I go often.) I remember when she decided to change the name to Dolly Patton’s Stampede and sooo many ppl were butt hurt for some reason saying “I can’t believe Dolly folded under the pressure to actually change the name of this legendary theater.” But here’s the thing, not one person actually asked Dolly to do this. There was no pressure, from anyone. It had really never been brought up. Dolly on her OWN realized how problematic this name was and decided on her OWN to change it. 🤷🏻♀️ Because that’s just what a boss Queen she is. Tennessee resident here. I’m an hour from Sevierville. I wanted something else to be known: in 2016, wildfires RIPPED through the Great Smoky Mountains. It killed 20 people, and put thousands of residents in bad shape (financially, emotionally, mentally...). They lost homes and friends and jobs, and a lot of them suffered burns trying to get away. Dolly literally paid bills for countless residents who needed it for months on end. She reconstructed smaller businesses and helped raise funds for organizations designed to build back the community. And I’m not even touching on everything she did during such a devastating time. She gave life back to the community she lives in, owns business in and is known for. She is a gem of a human being and that’s why we love her so much.

I literally came to comment about this (fellow regional resident here). Honestly the best things to come out of East Tennessee are the mountains and Dolly. I freaking love her. When I was little, my family was in the lower middle class. We couldn't afford books, but I loved to read. I remember getting a book from the Imagination Library for free every month. It was awesome, and I still have 6 of the books that were my favorites.

My father is in the music industry and I can confirm that Dolly Parton does infact pay her band even when she is not touring- but not only her band. Her technicians, merch salespeople, etc also receive payment when she is not touring. Beautiful lady with a beautiful soul.

I saw D’Angelo and Dolly Parton in the same notification, and suddenly my math test was completely unimportant.

I honestly forgot some people that some people are just considerate, responsible and respectful 😊Was genuinely shocked to hear that much positivity from someone with no dark or controversial history lurking lol

When I was in high school decades ago people didn't openly support gays or the need for legislation to allow marriage equality. Being from New Orleans exposes you to all walks of life at a young age. But in the late 80's people were very low key if they supported alternative lifestyles. I saw a interview of Dolly on MTV that impacted my voice on equality. Hearing her sweet but sassy and very direct support of homosexual lifestyles and marriage equality fired me up. My voice changed after that. Dolly gave me the balls to speak my mind about my personal views. I never forgot about that interview.
