As a long-time Patreon supporter of Gavin, I can guarantee you that once these books are unleashed to the public, the internet is gonna explode. Nobody blends weird/creepy/horror so well with lighthearted whimsical fun as Gavin.

I badly want to merge flavors and lore from Dolmenwood with Into the Wyrd and Wild, Vermis, Mork Borg, Knave, and Mythic Bastionland. ❤ Thanks for the video gents. 👍🏼

This is the best whimsical fairy tale meets hard core drug use setting I have ever seen. If I ever run this the PCs are basically going to be playing a high fantasy version of breaking bad.

Baron, you need to check out Princess Mononoke and Miyazaki's works in general. The story is embedded in mythic geopolitics. An enchanted divine forest sits on top of massive ore deposits, pushing humans and spirits into constant deadly conflict. Denizens of the forest slaughter humans to protect their home. Humans continue to destroy the forest to eek out a simple living and protect their own. And that's all prologue, the rest is incredible. You'd love it.

Great walkthrough! I share your enthusiasm and joy for this product. It’s going to be a long year while we wait for this massive product to ship but so worth it. 🎉

What annoys you about 5e alignment. As Gygax intended? Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic. He did write ADnD 1e and OSE Advanced is based on that, but I suppose Dolmen could be said to be a modified version of that, or only OSE Basic, but maybe originally DnD 0E was those three, and Basic DnD, but once it was 'advanced' it got both Good and Evil as well as Lawful and Chaotic. Personally, I could see going with Lawful, Chaotic, Neutral, and for some, Good and Evil as alignments. Then if you are Good or Evil you have a Slant or Bent, which depends on who you associate with and this can change. The value for this is that you can have npcs and characters who are Lawful or Chaotic and Neutral, but then ones that are clearly Good or Evil, and if those last two who they align with or associate with defines how 'lawful' or 'chaotic' their slant is. Say you have a NPC worshipper of Lolth, a Drow Elf, and of Evil alignment and because it is a Demon Queen of Spiders the drow is worshipping then alignment slant is chaotic, but other drow who are also Evil, who associate with Devils would be lawful in their alignment slant. They still list Evil as the alignment and no need to put the 'slant' or bent of the alignment as you can know that instantly as they are a worshipper of a Devil. If it were an Elder Elemental God and you decided as a GM that is 'neutral' yes you could have Evil with a slant toward Neutral too, or say you worship Nerull or some other Undead god, then you would have Evil with a neutral bent, but what if it were Orcus, then it would be Evil with a chaotic bent. Two extra alignments adds more depth without going with a 9 alignment structure and without needing long drawn out explanations and descriptions, who you align with determines that. If you are Evil but working with the Slave Lords and they care about Profits and Power, but we can't say you are Lawful or Chaotic, then you could just go with Neutral by default, but you are still clearly Evil. Yet, the Slave Lords do have rules and a dominating order of some type and if the GM feels that the Slaver is Lawful or Chaotic they can choose that, but it would make more sense probably that some minion or mercenary they are, like Orc Warriors or something would have that type of alignment. It's open ended into whatever YOU the game creator or GM want ot make it. In 5e I saw changes like Detect Good or Evil spells. I like Detect Evil and the idea of reversing a spell so it is Detect Good and not both. I'm more of an old school person in that way. I don't like how 5e has all these damaging Cantrips. Magic Missile should have been made a Cantrip in 5e, you shoot 2 missiles (1d4+1 per missile) which relative to the other spells like Firebolt dealing out 1d10, 2d4+2 is the same. But Magic Missile originally was an Autohit spell so if First level then it should be Auto-hit given the Cantrip spells you can cast and cast again all you want require hits and dealing 3 missiles but 3 separate attack rolls does not justify taking it as a first level spell slot really. Sure it can be handy, but the way I am suggesting is a better approach, your welcome Wizards of the Coast for doing a better job than your design staff. l would have made Magic MIssile the Cantrip spell (two missiles, d4+1 per missile, not auto-hit, thus you need two attack spells) and spell casters can cast as much as they want as they can with Cantrips. That is a good change giving the Wizard type character an attack, but not much different than throwing a couple daggers. Then as a first level spell Elemental Bolt, and then the wizard selects one type of element, but must lock in that choice when they learn it, so if electric, then that's it, not this 'oh what do I need for this creature'. Though the 5e approach does not work like that and so elmental bolt, and why you spend a 1st level slot is you can select the type of elemental energy. need a coldbolt or an electricbolt or a firebolt That way they are not cantrips, and i would vary what they do based on the current cantrip description so the cold one does slightly less damage but slows the target 10 feet move so each one has a varied effect. This is sort of like Chromatic Orb. and for that I might make it that a small explosive area of effect, with a save for half, unlike the Bolt version which has no save for half, unless you have Resistance to that elemental type. That is the type of approach I would have taken and it makes perfect logical sense, that most gamers would have liked and had not problem with.

1:00:30 regarsing roll to Know... I find borrowing from Gumshoe is a good method. Vital knowledge for the encounter is just shared by the GM freely (you recognize the humanoid eating corpses as an undead ghoul, you know a four legged furry animal is a bear that lives in woods, a woman with snakes for hair is a Medusa). Nobody loves the friction of "I know not to look Snake Lady in the eyes, but my Cleric doesn't ". I tend to add ask for knowledge rolls when someone wants to apply knowledge in a creative way ("I try to slip my Ring of Sustenance on the ghoul to contain its hunger", "I sprinkle myself with Vermin Repellant to make the snake-lady repulsed by my scent" "I extract the Nothic's eye to craft an anti-magic item"). A chance of this failing as well as a chance of success produces some wild results. (The ghoul is grateful for the relief, the Medusa is insulted you though she was like a lowly adder, the nothic eye shatters and causes a magical implosion, etc) Knowledge should be shared to allow fun to proceed, and rolls are simply ways to push the fun in wild directions. The only time you should never hand out knowledge is when your party encounters something TRULY alien (e.g. a beholder in Dolmenwood), but that involves a clear understanding of the campaigns and its tone and goals
