That was really humbling, I Just found a bunch of glass mini glass figures at my local thrift shop with a bunch of them broken. I ended up getting a deal for all of them for like..2 dollars. Seeing the work that goes into these sort of things makes you realize how often we take for granted the work of others.

I love how 1) as you make the dolphin, the color changes from that bright orange-red to the deep blue color, and 2) how when you turn the melted (molten?) glass around, it reminds me of the dolphin splashing in the waves.

You can, but once you lose, in your mind, the internal temperature, you are lost, unless you have been doing it for maybe more than 30 years full time. The longer you have been doing it, the more able you are at correcting complex mistakes. It takes a long time to be able to experiment enough to become fluent enough to make something in a planned sense of the word.

The glass is melted with Cobalt Oxide overnight. It changes from orange to blue as it cools down. It is only orange because it is glowing hot.

Yes we melt blue glass. It is a very dark colour and barely transparent when its very thick. Bristol Blue is not an opaque colour, but it is very dark. Opaque colours glow more than transparent.

Yeah cool man, I will be doing it tail first for the base now. I have been making it in my head for a while now. Time to put thought into practice! Flat crimps are pretty easy to fabricate. maybe your school has some metal work facilities?
