15:20 - 16:49 is one the best 90 seconds of roundnet information that I have heard in a long time. Roundnet absolutely NEEDS everyone’s participation and help in bringing new people into the sport. If we rely on just Spikeball to do everything forever, the sport will not get as far as we all want it to go.

Thanks, guys for taking the time to discuss a really really great topic! Both of you are anchors to the sport. Thanks for all you do!

I think Dom sells you guys short when he says that you're less vital than the local guy who organizes the pickups for even the beginner players. You were onto it when you asked the question. What are tournaments for? However, I think the step past that is why are people playing? If people are playing for fun, then the local guy is the most vital. If people are playing to compete and because it's a sport, then TDs like yourself are the main reason why local hubs can even be sustained because they need tournaments to look forward and "train" for no matter the skill level of the player

Thats a good word Ryan. I would agree. I think when I said that I was thinking about who’s more important for pushing the sport forward in growth, I should have further clarified my thoughts. Sure TDs have a big role to pay in growing Roundnet, but its a different kind of growth than what happens when your everyday player invites beginners to join and fall in love. TDs push forward legitimacy, professionalism, and competition. Community builders push forward involvement and passion for the game. (Imo) And for the sake of numbers of players increasing, that community builder does more to that end

I admittedly blur the lines on this because… I do both… but yes, it does matter what a player’s why is. We have some local players who love to play pickups, and I get to help support that space for them… and then I also enjoy supporting and pushing competitive folks to jump into a competitive setting too. Being approachable to all types of roundnet interests is a big key.

this is so good, one of the cooler tournaments i’ve been to was last weekend as a spectator for 4.0 max tournament in central park in nyc. They got 16 advanced teams and 18 intermediate/beginner teams. Everyone had a blast and from the people I talked to who were there as their first tournament, they had an absolute blast

Love this. Roundnet NYC has such a cool opportunity being so populous… but it’s also NYC so Roundnet space is at an absurd premium.
