Thanks for the video. In my case I didn't even need to buy a new switch. Just reseating the switch (popped it out and put it back in again) was enough to fix the light.

I have also found that the issue with the dome lights not working can be related to faulty connections between the switch and the metal railings (bus-bars) on the light assembly (not making contact) and or the metal railings on the light assembly and the clips that hold the lights. After removing the light assembly and removing the switch as shown in this video, try some gentle scraping on the surface of the three blades that go into the switch (both sides). I have also used a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the blades ever so gently to be not exactly straight but have a little zig-zag in them so that they make better pressure contact into the switch (make sure that they are aligned when inserting the switch). Also, the clips that hold the lights need to be partially slid onto and off of the metal bus-bars to remove the oxidation between the two metal surfaces. Lastly, make sure you have good bulbs (or buy the LED ones referenced in the post).

Thanks for the excellent video. You explained everything perfectly. In the case of my 2011 Odyssey it was the passenger side that did not work even though the lamp was good and I was able to take it down far enough to get the switch out without unplugging the wiring. Some shots of CRC contact cleaner into the little holes in the switch and on the three little contact tabs and putting the switch back in restored operation. I probably should have followed up with some WD40, but now that I know the easy procedure I can do that if it fails to work again. BTW, I found it easiest to remove the lenses by prying down on the ends of each lens at the inside corner by the pivot point. Thanks again.

It would be odd to have moisture getting into that location to create rust. It could be corrosion caused by an electrical burn. I would recommend cleaning the connector prong before installing a new switch. If you have a small wire brush that would do the trick.

The switches I used are not Honda OEM. It comes in a two pack and I had to replace the switch used in the video after about 2 years. Thankfully I hung onto the other switch and changed it out with the second one. It’s been 5 years now and still working fine aside from that one swap. I bet a Honda OEM switch would last longer but probably double the cost.

Both of my light bulbs quit working days apart. I bought new bulbs, still didn't work. Bought light bulb grease, still didn't work. Dealer said it must be a bad wire that comes from the headliner/ceiling. Everything else worked in the assembly. I ordered a used assembly on ebay that said it would "fit" mine, but when I got it, 2 of the 4 wire cluster clips were different than mine (2011 Odyssey EXL). Same features on both (dual map lights, sunroof button, interior lights button and speaker for Blue Tooth). I could unscrew and swap the Blue Tooth speakers so that would fit, but not the map lights. Something to know about should anyone have to get a whole new assembly. Really disappointed.

Jim, thank you for the question it’s been a little over two years now since I changed this switch. Unfortunately I did recently notice within the past month or two that the bulb will turn on when depressed but will not come on automatically when the doors open like all the other bulbs. This is clearly a switch problem so I got two years out of the aftermarket switch. Looking back I would recommend going with the OEM but the set on Amazon comes with two switches and I still have the other one so it looks like the time to swap another switch.

My guess is one of the plastic tabs on the cover is either bent or broken. They are somewhat fragile so being gentle with removal is important. If that is what happened you will most likely need a new cover.

Are you having the issue with just one light? If yes and it’s not the bulb or the switch I’m guessing it’s an electrical connectivity issue. If you have good power at the fuse it’s between there and the switch but that’s a more extensive repair depending on where the short is.
