How to replace the 240v heating element in a Dometic RMD8555T (T for tropical - it has a 250w heater vs the 190w heater in the non Tropic version).
My fridge still worked on Gas so I assumed the 240v heating element was dead. Its a $3500 - $4000 fridge and no one in Sydney could fix it for me anytime soon, my wife and I live full time in it and we needed the fridge fixed asap - i took a gamble on it being the heating element and thankfully it was! It is a fairly straight forward repair - the only PIA was.... when I removed the flu vent ext cover I flicked off the extension exhaust pipe on the top of the chimney - i had to tip the fridge forward far enough to reach in from inside the van to put it back on top of the chimney D'oh that was painful! - removing the heat shield on the gas flame / 12v / 240v heaters was difficult (for me as a newby) in hind sight I should have grabbed it with both hands and squeezed it until it popped open. Sourcing the replacement part was easy after I gave up on Jayco (2 days on hold and no progress - they didnt know what part I needed - despite having my VIN number and build sheet and fridge model number) - I used a special spray to check if the gas was reconnected without leaks and I had an electrician and gas fitter / plumber sign off on the repairs. I am very grateful this fixed my dead fridge.
