In 2006, Audi turned up with a diesel to Le Mans. It had been tried before and not been successful, but Audi being Audi, they had the brains and the know-how. It was immediately successful, and Audi would win something like 13 Le Mans in 15 years.
But why a diesel when petrols are much easier to work with in racing? Let's have a look.
