Thiem has an incredible serve for his size. He's able to hit 130mph which is crazy. I would really like to see him win a slam or get to the finals of one soon.

He was in the French Final this year. He is ready now mentally to win the French in the next year or two.

@@harryel-kara7712 I completely forgot about that. Maybe if Nadal hurts himself, Thiem might have a chance.

All Good, Historically, Austrians were regarded as ethnic Germans and viewed themselves as such. Austria was part of the Holy Roman Empire and the German Confederation until the Austro-Prussian war in 1866 which resulted in Prussia expelling Austria from the Confederation. I am Lebanese some people think we should go back before 1890 part of greater Syria during the Ottoman Empire. Forget the comments, focus on Tennis. Next time, I will be quite. :)

Thiem is playing reall far from baseline. It's too far for hard court. He gives himself time to hit big groundstrokes with a lot of spin but it's not useful here. In indoor match he plays flatter and close to baseline and it works well, this is how he will achieve better results aside from clay. BUT you have to consider this is a training practice, he tries to overhit Khachanov for the sake of practicing, which produces error. You also see him working on his serve swing. In the end it's a useful training.

"Dominic is Dominating Great Practice!!!!!"??? I think Karen won the set. Actually, Dominic looked worse here than I have ever seen him in match play. Backhand looked awful, forehand just good. Considering he may have the best groundies on tour, that's quite something.

Thiem won the set. He got much more consistent later.
@farid1406

He doesn't have the best groundies on tour...by a longshot. Federer, Wawrinka, Nadal, Dimitrov, Nishikori, Djokovic all have better to name a few.
@bdgregorybd

He hits the second heaviest ball, right behind Nadal. But yeah, when you look at power, consistency, variety, durability under pressure, spin, and more I would say he's like top 12 at best.
@ZimingXie

His ball is heavier than Nadal for sure, with more spin and speed in Madrid final data, and probably on par with Wawrinka. But hitting big ball doesn't mean better fore sure. Big hitters like Stan and him needs more time on slower surface.

His power is very effortful. There are so many incredible shots Federer, Nadal, and Novak pull off with seemingly no backswing because of their incredible acceleration, contact, timing and technique and I never see Thiem capable of that type of brilliance.
