Yeah 100% there I was talking about making him your prophet as you start the game with a slayer. You can also forge a chestplate called shroud of the battle saint at const 5 to make a commander sacred.

Anathament salamanders main use in combat for a long time is to dump fire gems into elementals or salamanders, which is still hard to deal with for some nations. Big elementals hit really hard in heat 3+ and ignore defense, so even stuff with a bit of FR cares. Very good vs elves and fire elemental dump can really help for storming early forts too. Anathament dragons main advantages are putting on earth boots to do earth buffs and to cast liquid flames of Rhuax. With phoenix power Rhuax flames are 26 AP fire in AoE one, for < 20 fatigue cost. People can gear up FR to hold that off, but vast majority of troops, sacreds, and thugs will die to a few of these casting it. If you're not making indy mages, it's these or salamanders, and these are somewhat more flexible since with earth boots they can get to E3 and cast some important earth buffs (more prot, strength, even weapons of sharpness). Speaking of weapons of sharpness, this is one reason to get something other than the flail guys, because it will work on slash or pierce. Strength + sharpness on battleaxe guys will tend to hammer through mist form. If you random F on warlock (very lucky) or empower in it, you can do solar eclipse and your roster enjoys that if opponent doesn't see in the dark. I do think blood econ is worth going, but a lot of EA Aby still needs to be making hay in early game to get as many good indy mage options as possible too. Some indies are worth fighting for, and the ability to fight for them (or just more land) goes a long way!

In vanilla map gen you start underground a lot but a bit below 50% which is nice as it means your cap isn't a wasteland and you get more gold. Sadly it's hard to expand underground and if you're playing mapnuke it won't happen. But net id say underground is a great start.

Thankfully most MP lobbies are having aby start underground. The above ground wasteland will doom you to poverty.

Nice overview. I love abyssia. Just wish they were a bit more viable in MP. Lack of a non cap blood mage really cripples them. That said, I was able to cause no end of problems for my opponent last time I played them by abusing the hell out of Slayers with lifelong protection.

Haha yeah I love the llp assasins. I feel like abyssia would be good if you could just even recruit b1s anywhere. The ability to send out 4 warlocks and spam horrors or even use hats and thornes to send lesser horrors is so good. It just never feels like quite enough you can never quite transition away from the strength of your troops.

What it really boils down to in a lot of ways is that they really start to struggle after around turn 30 or so once the other nations have hit a few key research targets and can start to mitigate the oppressive nature of your Burning Ones. My opponent in the game I mentioned was Ulm so that was one hell of a fun matchup. Two troop focused powerhouses just slugging it out.

As an Abby lover since dom4 Ea Abby seems to still be the weakest of the three. Yes Burning ones are oppressive and everyone will point to you having blood magic but in reality, you are almost a pure fire nation with a sprinkle of earth and astral.

I like the video & thoughts~ One thing I'd disagree with though is your choice of scales - if you play EA Abysia as a scales nation, forget about growth you'll want as much luck and magic as you can get to overcome your national limitations. When growth only has 1/2 the effect for you and it's in low-pop EA, lanterns for research and luck for gems are going to be much more valuable than 160 pts into growth. Like the dormant site searcher idea a lot though it really suits the nation

I 100% agree with you. But having your capital be a wasteland sucks and using growth you can transform it into a forest. That said you're right it's probably still not optimal I just hate seeing my cap waste away. Also yeah I'm really liking it in my current game

I agree that he should not take growth. But one unseen advantage of growth is that it protects against old age afflictions. And Abysian mages are very old!

Burning ones are size 4 with +2 effective size from formation fighter, which means you can only fit 1 in a square along with an infantry unit right? (12:30) So larger takes you up to 7 which means no real difference in attack density, and the bug is that they start with >1 per square right

Nope, formation fighter doesn't work like that. Formation fighter doesn't affect the size of the unit, it's a flat mod to how much size fits in a square, if all units in that square have that formation fighter mod; this is why Burning Ones start 2/square, because they're size 4 and formation fighter -2 means a square with only burning ones can fit 8 size worth of stuff.

I feel like Heat 4 is a bait, Heat 5 is 1% pop kill a turn which means summers are pretty bad, so the plains+river/farmlands are losing 0.9% pop a turn in summer

Forted provinces protect Abyssias pop from heat. Going heat 2 isn't bad and gets you the same points but with heat 4 it's 2 more fire power and you can pop kill your neighbors. Realistically as you don't really use the anointed of rhaux the only fire power unit you'll use is your sacreds so could be a bait. It'd be nice to run some tests

I agree. Heat 4 is probably a trap option, it's more than double the pop loss of Death 3. Heat 3 is good enough.

@@Harquebuze death 3 is 0.3% on abbysia, heat 4 is 0.4% on everyone. Obviously this affects your forts less. I think the baseline income dip and the extreme pop loss of heat 5 is the biggest issue. Edit: also like, at a certain point you have to ask, what's the marginal value of dumping more scales? Like D3 is pretty cheap for you, you get extra 2 bless points on EA abysia, how much stuff do you need before you start picking up marginal benefits

51:00 I find it interesting that you have 3 of each path on the site searching great warlock rather than 4. Does 4 not get you a lot of path boosters as well as the bonus for just having that path and also find you the most powerful (albeit rare) sites? Was it just a necessary trade-off or is there something I'm missing?

I can't think of a single path booster that having 4 gets you besides ring of wizardry and the death hat because of our path diversity we can forge boosters to forge more boosters. For sure searching the 4s are uniques and thus very uncommon. They are powerful just the odds of them being there's really low so it's not worth searching with 4s unless you notice scales irregularities and then we can always site search with magic
