I mean they absolutely did this with cigarettes and alcohol, as an expresison of freedom and identity. He was just rude to an external contractor, this isn't "putting an arrogant intellectual in their place", this just Don being an asshole, as per usual, when his mystique was at its peak.

I completely agree that Don can be an asshole at times, that's undeniable. However, in this situation, I believe Greta was the one who provoked first. It's evident from her facial expressions and mocking glance, as well as the way she asked, "Do you have some kind of surprise for the tobacco people?" It's as if she assumed they had nothing. If you recall what Sal said about her: "Great. Now we have to hear from our man in research." She already had a certain bad reputation. Everyone has the right to be whoever they want and to make their own choices, regardless of their sexual orientation, and I don't criticize that. But if you take a closer look at her character, she's a feminist lesbian, which, as you know, was heavily condemned at that time. As for the title, maybe something different could have been considered, but at that moment, that's how I placed it, and that's it... Maybe we can organize in the comments for everyone to write the best title that fits this scene, and the one with the most likes, I would use it and change it without a problem. This is just my opinion...Thank you for your comment.

@@poseidoncam genuinely. What does sexual orientation have to do with anything here, let alone, any verification this character risk gay or a feminist?

@@FoxInTheBasement genuinely, the mention of sexual orientation in my comment is intended to highlight the societal context of the time period portrayed in the show. During the 1960s, individuals who identified as homosexual or feminist often faced discrimination and were viewed negatively by society. This contextual background helps to understand the dynamics between the characters and sheds light on Greta's perceived reputation. While I acknowledge that sexual orientation may not directly relate to the specific interaction between Don and Greta, it serves as a backdrop to the broader social climate depicted in the series. Additionally, my interpretation of Greta's character is based on her portrayal in the show, particularly in the first episode, where her behavior and reputation are established. However, I respect that interpretations may vary, and this is simply my perspective.

@@poseidoncam again, at what point beyond your interpretation of the time, do we derive this character is a lesbian feminist? Beyond a deep cut reference to a certain era of psychology, she's not that broad or deep of a character, her research is more of a plot tool for a conflict between Pete and Don later. Even Mad Men is not doing THAT much with a minor character

@@FoxInTheBasement In response to your question about the character of Greta Gutman in the "Mad Men" series, I believe there are indications suggesting she could be portrayed as a lesbian and feminist. These impressions stem from various subtle cues in the scene where she appears, as well as from my overall interpretation as a viewer. While I acknowledge that Greta's character may not be extensively developed, her demeanor and the dynamics of her interaction with other characters hint at possible aspects of her identity. As for Don's hostile behavior towards her, I perceive it as partially provoked by her initially mocking question, although I don't approve of his action of throwing the report into the trash bin. Regardless of Greta's sexual orientation and any possible provocation, Don could have expressed his views on her research in a more polite manner. However, the complexity of the situation is evident in Salvatore's similar thoughts, suggesting underlying tensions beyond individual character dynamics.Furthermore, I've discovered additional sources, including the original script and the book "Mad Men, Mad World: Sex, Politics, Style, and the 1960s," which provide further context for understanding the characters and their interactions. These sources may offer a better insight into the portrayal of Greta and other characters in the series. Here are the links:1. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/library.oapen.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.12657/52912/external_content.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y 2.chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/desertscreenwritersgroup.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/madmen-pilot-script.pdf
