Sweet! I'm a huge fan and collector of Don's recordings. I'm sorry to have been late to the party and didn't know of him until he was already gone. I'm grateful for this opportunity to see him play live here! Great performances by bassist, Martin Wind and the drummer as well! Thanks for sharing this.🥰

A lovely recording, perfect in its way. Martin Wind''s bass solo is gorgeously intense and inventive.

Why did it take so long for me to discover Don…and why are there so few comments from years ago? This will be posted on FB immediately! (Never Let Me Go is my absolute favorite rendition…sorry Bill Evans…you were my first love but you did not live long enough…)

my favorite pianist. ever since i heard him on john handys no coast jazz on roulette on 1960. its unfortunate he got more recognition in japan and europe than here, although american musicians knew how gifted he was : booker little, charles lloyd, etc.he is sorely missed! r.i.p. don.

Wow.. both the music and the image are really beautiful. The touch they give to this song is very elegant and tender. I love it, thanks for uploading!

He takes it in a different key from Bill Evans, who perhaps doesn't sustain interest for the 15 minutes of his solo performance. Friedman reaches rapturous, complex and inspired heights in the 10 minutes of his trio performance.

I think the bassist could be Martin Wind. Haven’t figured out the drummer yet….

This Steinway model "D" concert grand is in decent tune, but it is badly needing voicing. The hammers have been packed so tightly by overplaying the instrument, that it sounds more tinny than a Yamaha. However, the voicing takes at least one or two hours, and should have been done before this festival, since there is no time between performances, other than time for quick touch-up tuning.

Was thinking along the same lines. It jumps out that the piano sounds tinny and harsh. It’s actually quite hard for me hear past.
