I recently uploaded a set from this band from December 20, 1985. This is the second set from the following night, December 21st. Although I don't think this is quite as good of a set in terms of tune selection, it has great playing by all. Although all of the playing is smoking, Frisell's solo on Grolnick's Regret is particularly emotionally compelling (starting at 54:30). What a monster of a band:
Don Grolnick - piano
Michael Brecker - tenor saxophone and EWI
Bill Frisell - guitar
Marc Johnson - bass
Jeff Watts - drums
00:00 Fall (W Shorter)
12:37 Johnson/Brecker/Grolnick improv
16:40 Strange Meeting (B Frisell)
30:15 What Is This Thing Called Love (C Porter)
46:40 Regret (D Grolnick)
1:00:13 How Blue Is It (later re-titled Nothing Personal) (D Grolnick)
This was recorded by a friend of mine and I've had the tape since 1985. Uploaded here solely for educational purposes and historical interest. Enjoy.
