songs like this are timeless. i'm currently 31 and this takes me back to my first love, despite the fact that this song came out about 15 or so years earlier. i've always loved the eagles and i think Don Henley was the best solo artist out of them. this song is a fine example and the fact that it was a collaboration with Bruce Hornsby is the icing on the cake. Mandolin Rain comes to mind, also an epic song and forever classic. i hope my daughters appreciate good music when they grow up.

He has my very favorite voice on the planet, has for the past 40 years (I'm an original Eagles fan). Just saw them in Atlanta in May, you can close your eyes and the sound is the same as the 1970's. They rehearse daily on tour and it shows when you see them. Proud and glad this is my generation, wouldn't trade it for anything they call music now.

I love Don and the Eagles music - I have been lucky enough to see them 3 times. This song is so special to me - it has a bitter sweet theme which truly resonates with me.Losing my Dad (when aged 5), and going through a very messy divorce in 2004 which has resulted in not seeing my 2 beautiful daughters for the past 7 years just makes this song even more meaningful to me.Its simplicity and opposing complexity make this work of art not just incredibly melodic, but also thought provoking.Thanx Don

You know that is the beauty of music, is how it speaks to each different person's soul. Just because a song may be "supposed to be about" something, it may speak an entirely different message to someone else's heart!

What's one of the most amazing thing about The Eagles is how they sound just as good live as they do in the studio. Where American rock bands go, they are near the very top -- all of them incredibly gifted singer-songwriters and instrumentalists. You can even say they border on -genius, if one musical description of genius is their being able to passionately bridge the gap between country music and classic rock. There will never be another band like them! So enjoy them now -- more than ever!

I remember working in a very large strip mall in Branson, Missouri when I was a teenager. I would open the store most mornings and the mall sound system would have been playing all night long. One of the few songs that were played on that system was this song, and it never got old. I would go to work early and sit on the bench outside in all weather, many times alone, and wait for this song to play to start my day. Thanks Don. Right place, right time.

Beautiful Song!! Puts tears in my eyes. I'm 30 and remember hearing this song years ago as a kid on a long drive home at night in the back seat of my car with my family who were all going through struggles at the time. This music was really in tune with the times...a change going from the more innocent times in the 80s to the more corrupt 90s and all the innocence that died with it. However it's power still rings true to so many of us to this day. Timeless

What a sensitive and touching song about growing up...which is always so painful. Stepping through the door from innocence to knowledge...and sometimes wishing you could go back through that door to the more simple days and moments of childhood. You find that you can never go back and that the pieces of a broken mirror can never be replaced to reflect the same way. Bitter sweet, but so true!

I agreed completely. There were two situations that happened to me recently and 20yrs ago. I got through a nasty divorced 3yrs ago and split up with what I considered the love of my life 20yrs ago! This song really hits home and each and every time I listen to it, I can relate and connect to it on a deeper level. It's kind of scary that once in a while a song came along and depict the life you're living. It's true that you can live your life indulging in just music.
