i am white so i have no authority over the usage of it, but culturally, being an american, i can say this much: it is a vicious word. and while i believe you can take back a word, there has to be solidarity. the n-word, of all slurs and derogatory terminology, is perhaps the most charged word in all of american english because of the dark history from which it was derived. and the fact is, the history of bipoc oppression is still being recorded at a large scale today. so if there is no solidarity or consistency in the usage of the word, meaning all or a large majority bipoc americans are okay with saying it or at least hearing it being spoken in a semi-casual setting, then it’s use in any case should be hugely questioned.

He's absolutely right. The word itself shouldn't be cancelled out of existence, all that does is give it more power and potential to cause hate and further divide. It's absolutely okay to refer to a word as the word to document reality, ESPECIALLY for the sake of recording dialect and language, like in a news reporters case. That doesn't mean people are being called it, but it's use is being honestly acknowledged. Language should never be outright banned, that is a dangerous path to go down.

Don is absolutely right Sunny fears that word so much that it does more harm. You don't heal a deep cut by ignoring it you heal it by acknowledging it and taking care of it or else you bleed to death.Your job as a reporter or journalists is to inform the people and show them the reality of a situation even if its hard to accept if you feel the need to sugar coat the news to make it easier to digest then go look for another career because this is obviously not right for you.

If no one is aloud to say the word then nobody will get it through there head that it is bad in any way. I agree with lemon 🍋. When a person is writing a book about racial prejudice such as slavery or the times when Jim Crow was alive I think they should be able to utter it when it’s appropriate so people get the right context on how it was used and why it was used, and that was to keep black peoples down.
