He talked about it in some other appearance somewhere. He said Elvis came into the room and said, “Hi don, I’m Elvis Presley..” and Don said “oh like I don’t know! He had the wings on and everything!” - something like that

It’s on them for not getting it. I’m definitely after Rickles’ hayday. I was born 1990, but I still got it and was laughing my ass off. To be fair though, I give the credit to my grandfather. He loved Rickles and O’Connor and Mr. Sammy Davis Jr too and he made sure I knew all of them.

irony or just hilarious? Letterman started out making fun of 'celebrity'. How they want to be treated special.. ridiculed them.. wore tennis shoes even if he was wearing a suit. wore old navy type clothes normally... in the end He became one of them.. demanded everyone respect his 'celebrity' and wear a suit. HYPOCRISY at highest and most in your face level I've ever seen. Do they convert every famous person or what?
@jeffreymason7049

it's called being a professional. If you don't want to wear the suit, maybe don't take the job? Nothing hard about it, that's what happens when you grow up, you can't just look like a shmuck everywhere you go - how tragic! /s

If Letterman really wanted to cash in on his celebrity, he should run for office as a republican. They love their celebrities, they always elect them.
