I purchased a boat cover from the box store. Every spot that it was touching the gelcoat it chalked after 1 winter covered up. Payed $800 to make it look better but was never the same afterwords.

Any aftermarket parts are about 50/50. Certain parts that are crucial you definitely don't want aftermarket, some, you take a chance with. I'm lucky I guess cause I've had probably a 75% success rate with aftermarket parts. However, there are some good aftermarket companies, (even on Amazon and eBay), and there are unfortunately, some bad ones. Just my two cents.

To add to this, I've purchased cheap, non oem boat parts (Key Ignition Switch, Water Pump Kit, Lower Unit Seals, and seals for a tilt/trim unit. All of them I've had to redo over the past 2 years since doing it originally. It creates issues that are very difficult to diagnose. I kept having the 10amp fuse on my E-Tec pop and turns out the key switch from amazon was causing it. Bought an OEM and haven't had an issue since. Worth the money for the quality, and I'm a BRP guy lol.

Hmmm, i just had my starter in a '17 250 Suzuki go out after only 300 hrs. The starter rebuild place near me said it looked brand new, but the brushes were completely shot. They recommended only changing the brushes, which they did for $50. They said they were "marine" grade and they have a great reputation in our area. What do you think?
