My backrooms render didn't look quite real enough and for months I couldn't place my finger on the issue. After watching the carpet texture part of the tutorial I made adjustments to my texture and the subtle detail of the musgrave texture added so much realism to my render, it changed everything. I can't thank you enough for making this video.

So glad to hear that! The key to realism oddly is imperfections and variety. Something CG and proper modeling methods don't offer. So we have to now learn how to mess up our scenes and add that touch of lifes imperfections to it. And when it's something creepy, run down, and not Star Trek clean scifi there's lots of room for imperfection in the textures, image quality, and even geometry we make.

21:12 the baseboard in the doorway can be done much easier. grab the baseboard edges and extrude them a short distance into the doorway then use the shear tool to rotate them a bit. then you can fill the area between each side. the shear tool is great for shifting the edges of things without changing the overall shape. Great tutorial BTW. the texture object is saving me a lot of time on other projects. :)

Heh, I think my own original issue is that I overdid everything, including wallpapers having a little bit of that old detaching wallpaper warble, but looking back at how you did it it made a lot more sense and your method does make it seem a bit more backrooms-esque (and slightly easier to render!). I focused on excessive details! Nice vid, Daniel.
@DanielGrovePhoto
9 ай бұрын
Thank you! Hey those minor details have their place but you have to approach them strategically. Think of it as a "60, 30, 10 rule" 60 percent of a scene is large scale shapes and "details" which scale is very important in. 20 percent is medium details that help the large stuff connect and add variation/give the allusion of scale. And 10 percent is those small minor things that give imperfection, variation, and character to your scene. Not an exact rule but you get the point. Also only focus on minor details that will be close to the camera AND actually render depending on the resolution and sample count of your final output.

The only thing i would like to add here is explanation to set any SEED NUMBER rather than 0 under advanced denoise setting on render tab, because on many vids ppl doesnt set it and the video is flickering asf making it looks like shtshow Same for those, who render with 480p to "ThIs ReSoLuTiOn Is LiKe VhS" while utub compression on 480 kills in a head any bitrate and quality making video looks like 100 times overcompressed videos of early 2000, and not even close to VHS quality

@@DanielGrovePhoto Sorry if it wasn't very "english"... I am french and try to do my best 😅 I meant that instead of using a cube to scale your texture, you could do it with an empty as well, and that the empty would not be rendered by accident (scaling your cube so much, it's easy to forget it and render the animation, forgetting to hide it from the camera) It would be sad to realize it once the animation is rendered. Anyways, I like your vids, keep up the good work ;)

Where is that discoloration coming from? Have you narrowed it down to a specific node? Is it ambient occlusion? Is this problem visible in the render or only in a certain viewport mode?@@Nerv0u5
@Nerv0u5
11 ай бұрын
@@DanielGrovePhoto I'm pretty sure its got something to do with the shading but I can't narrow down where it's coming from unfortunately. It's possible it has something to do with AO as well. Basically what I think is happening is that after I extended the vertices of the pillar I may not have done it correctly. My walls aren't one full object like yours. The pillars I extended are registering as one object in object mode, however in edit mode the pillar and the section of the wall that was extended are registering as two selectable objects. I could send you a copy of the render/screenshot so maybe you can see specifically what I'm talking about.
