Being a former trainee who was being medically discharged I can safely say that in the US army there is extreme cases of bullying from both peers and chain of command
@ericharrison7518
2 ай бұрын
Most trainees getting "medically discharged" just couldn't hack it and found anyway they could to get out. It's obvious by the nature of their discharge. A simple medical discharge is someone finding a reason not to continue on. A medical retirement/medboard though? That's when the military owes you compensation for the injuries you've received while in service, whether you're a fresh boot who broke his leg in basic or a guy with twenty years and finally snaps from the smothered PTSD symptoms finally getting to be too much. If I'm being frank, there was likely a reason why you were "bullied" as a holdover, likely a very good one. From my own time in Basic and AIT to when I was on the other side as cadre /medical support at the basic training center at Fort Knox, most holdovers/medical discharges were guys who got in over their heads, pussed out, and then became nothing but a waste of resources and time as they awaited their paperwork to leave and inevitably did things they weren't supposed to do.

My English skills are not good, so I used a translator. Sentences can be awkward. I've never seen the drama, but I decided to watch it after watching the video above. The above incident appears to be based on the case of Byeongjang Lim of the 22nd Division. Although their ranks are different, they are the same in that they mobilize special forces and units to suppress armed desertion due to shootings and harassment. One thing to say At that time, among those who participated in the suppression, ammunition was not provided to soldiers of interest, and in a sub-platoon composed only of these people, the second lieutenant carried an ammunition barrel and the squad members were made to carry empty guns. Although much has improved and changed since that incident, suicidal thoughts and abusive behavior still occur. As of 2024 Marine Corps Corporal Chae Incident An incident occurred in which a trainee died due to abuse by the 12th Division training company commander. What the above incidents have in common is that the quality of non-commissioned officers and executives is low and they lack leadership. There is also the fact that he participated in bullying. There is also a problem that the Ministry of National Defense and the government, which need to improve this, are trying to handle it in the style of the 1960s and 1980s. Anyone who knows Korea well will know what this means. A serious problem that was recently added is that those who advocate feminism against the new recruit who died in the 12th Division ridicule the new recruit who died in the above incident because he was a man. The fact is that the company commander who committed the atrocity is being defended because she is a woman. (This company commander went on vacation to his hometown immediately after the incident and the command gave permission.) I also served on the front lines in the Korean military and knew how difficult it was, and it has been a few years since I was discharged. However, recent events make me think a lot. I wrote this because I was disturbed by recent events. If you have any questions, please leave a comment I will answer as I see it. I will leave a related wiki link for those who are interested. 28th Infantry Division Medic Murder Case (en.namu.wiki/w/%EC%A0%9C28%EB%B3%B4%EB%B3%91%EC%82%AC%EB%8B%A8%20%EC%9D%98%EB%AC%B4%EB%B3%91%20%EC%82%B4%EC%9D%B8%EC%82%AC%EA%B1%B4 ) 22nd Infantry Division shooting incident (en.namu.wiki/w/%EC%A0%9C22%EB%B3%B4%EB%B3%91%EC%82%AC%EB%8B%A8%20%EC%B4%9D%EA%B8%B0%EB%82%9C%EC%82%AC%20%EC%82%AC%EA%B1%B4 ) Marine Corps 1st Division Pvt. Wouldnt it be straight up better if the persons just stop bullying? This is one of the many proofs for that, and Im lucky to not got forced into the military. Seriously, if bullying occurs, everyone loses. The victim and the convict. If the safety of the whole country depends on it, it should stop better sooner than later.

I will tell you this sort of bullshit with the bullying was rampant then a lot of Korean dudes got fucked with waayyyy too hard for no good reason. They'd slap their guys in front of us on post barely if at all fed them literally night and day to what we got. There were several suicide attempts even among them that we heard of. Military bullying is a thing in many other countries too & incidents like this happen from time to time. A friend of mine works as a drill sergeant in Russia, he has seen quite a lot of crap in his 12 years of work, there was a guy who couldn’t withstand bullying so he took the tube from the gas mask and hanged himself, there were also cases like the one in this story, where a kid would break after being bullied, usually by the senior year, & killing them all. The unfortunate side of this is that , especially in Russia, stories like this are often shushed and never see the light of the day. Luckily, my service in Cyprus has been uneventful, but this isn’t the case for everyone, didn’t hear of any shooting in Cyprus, we never had such thing, yet there is bullying too. On the good side, not all seniors and officers are assholes, many of them understand that we are just kids, they even sometimes order food with us even though this is banned in army. This week, we got new recruits, they are yet to serve their 14 months while we have 2 left, I hope that all of them will do fine, especially the ones in oik.

Alright, I need to mention this. Toxic seniority like this happens anywhere but perhaps not everywhere throughout the world. You can say that your sistem is clean, yeah sure, but you never know until blood is shed and lives are at stakes. Shit like this also happens in Indonesia, and I hope that screenwriters could take notes and make movies similar to this, cuz man I'd love to see these bullies get their comuppances. It is just sad that the victims were the only ones suffering in the end. :/

This isnt the only movie showing how life is inside koreas mandatory military camps. D.P is a show that came out on netflix in 2021 and its quite similar.
