Splendid advice for one inheriting (or otherwise having) a fine pen that isn't part of one's daily life. Your advice is sound, though, for growth in any aspect of personal aesthetic growth. Now, for those of us who have many lovely pens, and feel that we are neglecting too many of them, have you done a video?

Thanks for sharing this Dennis. For experienced user and collectors the amount of pens makes it almost impossible to use all of them, however all of them have been purchased with a certain reasoning or why. It’s the why that is important. 🙌🏼❤️🖋️

Well, i think that at the end of the day anyone deciding to purchase a pen, has the right to do whatever he wants for it. However, i think it is smart to reflect on things and doing whatever we do with more purpose. 🙌🏼

Why not? That’s a sizeable percentage of what I use mine for! I’m certainly not going to use a cheap and nasty pen for writing that’s already a chore when I have a really nice pen (or six!) there that could make the task a lot more pleasant.

This is an awesome advice! When I discover your channel I was doing exactly that: I just founded the nice pens my parents and grandparents "collected" while doing a deep cleaning to their houses and I was searching about to refill them to use them myself since they just neglected them and just used "supermarket plastic" pens. Now I have a new vision about writing as an experience and starting my collecting journey!

I agree with you 100%!! It’s just as important to buy items ( pouches,cases, sleeves,etc.) to house and protect the pens as it is to buy the pens. I have my eye on a Galen 40 pen case before I buy another pen! I like to carry my pens(4or5) in a Galen portfolio!

First of all, thanks for sharing these videos, I really enjoy them. I totally understand where you are coming from....however, I have 3 luxury MB pens: I use my Meisterstuck 146 fountain pen every single day. Sometimes I use a ballpoint and that would be my 30 years old Meisterstuck ballpoint with sterling silver cap. The 3rd pen I have, I never use but I love it. It is simply beautiful and so well made. (Meisterstuck Around The World in 80 days Solitaire ballpoint). I spite of the fact that it just sits in its etui without being used at all (to heavy for my taste), I carry it with me every day and will definitely never let this one go. Sometimes pens have more of an emotional value than practical use.

That probably applies to European or American pens. But, what about urushi pens from Japan? Many people get them just because they are beautiful to touch and see. I don't have many pens, and most of them are rollerballs or fineliners, which i use to write and draw. But in this small collection there is a humble Namike Nippon Art (the cheapest Namiki) and a Cypress Eggshell (which is amazingly cheap just because it is from Taiwan.) I got these two not exactly for writing, but to give my senses some joy. ❤

All the reasons you state Samuel are behind my decision to be a "user/collector". Prior to purchasing any pen I ponder how I shall be using it and even what I shall do with the box, so I have adopted a loose allotment of subject matter by pen and rotation of a few. I give myself the chance to get emotionally connected to my pens and therefore chose models that resonate with me in the most powerful manner. They have become an essencial part of my life, I was even thinking of having one or two for the display cabinet and as well as writing with them.

Thank you for these words of wisdom! Although, I found you 5 years too late! I remember in my youth, my sister having a fountain pen and later in the 90’s I bought one (Schaefer or Parker) they both are long gone and it saddens me to think how much fun they would be right now!! But, I’ve moved on and started a very affordable “cheapie” collection. With the intent to “upgrade” my collection as I grow. Here we are 5 years/25 pens later!!! 😂. Thanks to your videos and wise guidance I am now taking steps towards my grail pens. Scary a little, but exciting. I don’t have any like minded people to associate with so its difficult most of the times. But your videos are informative, fun, and friendly. Thank you so much for all you do. My grail pen at the moment would be Pilot Custom Urushi in Vermillion. Can’t wait to hold that in my hand!!! 🥰. Thanks again, God bless you.

Absolutely Samuel! I think that a lot of people buy a nice pen wanting that tactile feel etc and then don't really know how to integrate it into their lifestyle. I always reccomend journaling by hand to give a real purpose to using the instrument. Something for multiple pen owners is having it on the desk rather than in a draw, many times if I have not used a certain pen in a while I put it in my pen pot and rotate those around a little.
@SamuelNaldi

Very good points. Obviously in the video i'm referring especially to people who want to pick this interest again. Once you're into it and have integrated it into your Lifestyle you should be free to do as you want. (i do have pens in my drawer... but i mean... i have at least over 50 pens) LoL

@@SamuelNaldi Yes even simple things like refilling or encountering a dry pen is enough to put people off, even after they have already invested so I think you are right on the money with your advice. I think a twin pouch is amazingly handy to take around with you too so you never really grow out of it. Your pen collection, now thats a video I would love to see!
