This was a very intuitive video. I've been through a number of boats over the years and these types of videos keep me learning. There are so many more options compared to when I started kayak fishing with my old Tarpon 160i. That thing was a beast.

I had lots of different kayaks . I was never happy until I bought a feelfree lure 11.5 in 2016 . I have used every since with no complaints . It is the perfect kayak for what I needed . I probabably bought and sold 10-14 kayaks before I was happy . One of the most uncomfortable for me was the hobie I bought . The worst seat i ever kayaked in . They have a better seat now .

My kayak is a lifetime Sportfisher. It's a wide 10' tunnel hull. A large blob of plastic you sit on and fish. Supports 500 pounds and cost me only $500 delivered. It's the jon boat of kayaks. Very basic, but it's great for the local lakes. You don't need to spend thousands to get out and fish. Available at the big box stores.

Great video! There is so many options in the kayak world its hard to know all the options and make a good decision. DPS is a great shop and have a very knowledgeable staff with a large inventory. Your absolutely right about the ss127 being a generalist kayak. It makes a great first kayak because its capable of many things but it's not a master in one area but offers great stability. While I was happy with my ss127 i discovered that my fishing style mostly aligns to river fishing. I recently moved over to a native slayer max 12.5 which does great on the river and is much faster.

I’ve used a lot over the years. The right one for my fishing shallow water fisheries is the Innovative Sportsman Osprey 1436. Big water fishing kayaks is a different story, but the Jackson Kayak Knarr does really well. So does the Old Town Big Water 132 or older Predator. I like my old Wilderness Systems ATAK 140 on big water too, but it’s going to be a wet ride in rough weather!

I have the poor man’s 10 ft lifetime kayak. I’m currently running a minnkota 30/30 mounted on bro Craft mount, 7 inch fish fisher with a control panel. The lifetime is the best in my books, the flatter the bottom the safer you are and if you’re in an area with waves. Always turn into the wave, that apply to all kayaks. I just slide my kayak in the back of my truck, strap down and away I go. I’m horrible with a trailer and I don’t want to cause a jam at the launching docks.

That can act like big water. Much of what qualifies it as big water is how prone it is to create big waves. Smaller reservoirs in Oklahoma where there is no land topography to slow down the wind can be treacherous. The shape of the lake matters too. Bowl shaped as opposed to a dammed up river that stays narrow have different wind-impact qualities.

Man I just recently have became interested in kayak bass fishing in particular. But I’ve never had any real kayak experience period much less a fishing rig. I was wondering and maybe this would make a good video maybe, but as someone wanting to get starting in kayak angling what should I look into buying as far as price points and quality for my first kayak. What I mean is I don’t want to spend way to much money on a kayak only to find out that kayak fishing isn’t for me or make the mistake that is something I can compare to golf it’s like cheaper cavity backs and blades some people make the mistake of buying the most expensive blade set because they see that’s what the pros use. But they don’t understand that because they are using blades you have to be at a certain skill level to hit blades effectively if you know what your doing you can do a lot with them but they aren’t forgiving for a new golfer. But ag the same time I don’t want to buy a cheap Walmart kayak and because it’s cheap I end up hating the experience and keep me from having a proper experience Ina kayak fishing rig and give up because I didn’t buy something a little nicer that would have given me a totally different experience

Find a shop that will let you demo several models. If I had to boil all my advice down to one thing (obviously I can’t, hence the long video), demo many kayaks would be my best single piece of advice. Price point will figure itself out.

Anyone that wants a fast, easy to paddle yak needs to buy a sit in touring yak and add rod holders. The "sit on" industry is so FOS it's unreal. None of them track well or paddle well, they are all like paddling a barge.

Great video! Been doing a lot of research for my first Kayak. I don't have a lot of options to paddle different boats as there's no real dealers within a 2 hour drive here in West Texas. I'm looking to be able to take my small kids out, 3 and 5, but be able to fly fish on my own also. Been looking at the Nucanoe Unlimited or F12 and the Taketwo. Nucanoe is more right now without the second seat. I'm not super interested in pedals because of taking the kids out. I'll do a trolling motor or something if I want motorized. Any words of wisdom or ideas on boats? Thank you!

I watched your Kent Island Bay fishing 41 mile video . I fish the Bay and wonder if you could give me the benefit of your experience. The person in the Outback was running a Torqeedo 1103 and you were running the 403 ac. I am debating the two motors in terms of power and range. Obviously 3hp is more power, but is there a big difference in range. I fish a Hobie PA 14. Range is important but the Range numbers are based on the Hobie Revo hull. Which motor would you suggest for the bay with a Pro Angler in mind? Thanks

Is the Hobie mirage outback good for big water
@TheLittleStuff
Жыл бұрын
Sure. I think that requirements for big water are more about the angler than the boat. You need to be able to reboard in rough conditions - big wind driven waves. The Outback has a low rail, perfect for reboarding. Keep one side clear of accessories. Practice reboarding. If you’re looking for a boat that is a “dry ride” in big rough water, you’re going to find it, but you’re setting yourself up for a difficult task of flipping the boat back over and getting back in. I like a boat with strong secondary stability for big water with wind driven waves.

@@edgars00789 I love my Wilderness Systems ATAK 140, but it’s a discontinued model. I am also enjoying the Bonafide RVR 119. It has the most secondary stability of any fishing kayak I’ve been in. It will be a wet ride in big rough water, but you can handle that steep water better in that boat.

Anyone have a recommendation? old town said the salty and big water would be good but salty has hardly any storage and bigwater is too big at 13 feet.
