Do not pay over MSRP. Don’t pay for thousands in dealer add one or mark ups. Last year, I bought a 24 Honda HRV EXL due to lower insurance from a 23 Accord EX I wanted. I paid 29,000. MSRP. No mark ups. I bought the last one the dealer had. Show room car. Low inventory. I played hard ball. I got subverted rate of 5.9, not 9.97. My payment is 342.00. I had 8200 equity in my trade, 20 Fit EX. Plus I put 2K down. Financed 20,500 after ext warranty. My loan now is 11,800 in 10 months. I’m paying extra principal. My fit payment was 330.00. Only 12.00 more on my new car.

Over MSRP? You should never pay MSRP, period. What is the second word in MSRP, ..... Suggested. Yeah, let that sink in. Always negotiate below MSRP and have a percentage in mind before you start talking to a salesperson but just keep that information to yourself. If you love a vehicle there are always other options. It gets you from A to B. What options do you need in it, how many seats, how much room, do some research to see what other vehicles might check all your boxes.

I just bought my new Honda with a MSRP $33,000 out the door for $30,733, that's with doc fee, state tax, transfer tag fee added & $1400 subtracted for my trade in. I think I got a pretty good deal bc the Honda dealer across town wanted $34,215 out the door for the exact same MSRP $33,000 car & fees. Difference was they offered me only $500 for my trade in & they had a $1,999 add on window sticker on it & every new Honda vehicle on their lot. The dealer I bought from doesn't add a add on window sticker on any of their new Honda's unless you ask for something you want added from the accessory catalog!

I will never buy a new year model for ANY vehicle, ever. It immediately depreciates in value when you drive off the lot, and yet you'll be paying monthly notes on it as if it's retained the original value. WITH interest. Doesn't make sense to me.
@casey6518
21 күн бұрын
@@rabd3721 That's your choice isn't it! But I'm 57 now & retired early at 55, this could be my last new car too. I kept my last car for almost 18 years to drive to & from work but now I will put an average of 5000 miles a year on the new one. I'm not worried about deprecation now because I don't trade cars that often now like I did when I was younger. This 2024 is my 14th new vehicle since my 1st new one I was given for my senior year of highschool. You keep buying your used cars in your life & I'll continue to buy only brand new ones like I have done my entire life so far. Not interested in buying something someone else decided they didn't want anymore for a reason. So deprecation really means very little to me if I'm not planning to trade anytime soon, besides my car will be paid off next summer if interest rates on CD's drop below 5% when it's time to renew a baby CD I have! I did put $10,000 down plus my trade so I'm not upside down by any means iny loan. Gotta spend my $ on something bc you can't take it with you if something happens, it's best to enjoy it while you can & a new car is enjoyable!

Most of these are justifiable by buyers - simply by the fact that even overpaying; they’re still more affordable than the next model “up” Obviously, when people have a fixed amount they’re able/willing to spend. Whether a car is at, below, or above MSRP; they’re still going to go with that vehicle, because it’s in their budget. Other vehicles, like the maverick as well - have really, really excellent resale value - so it’s almost impossible to be upside down if you’re getting one under $30K. It’s also the cheapest hybrid vehicle on the market - while also doubling as a light duty pickup. Great vehicle, and dealers can get away charging more, cause it’s relatively underpriced, compared to similar vehicles. Still should overpay (you can order one at MSRP from almost any reputable dealer) - but it’s probably the best sub $30k vehicle on the market for value, and residual value after 5 years. Good gas mileage too…

I just bought a 2024 Venue. Love it and got a great deal. Thanks for informing me before I went to the dealer

Is the data skewed at all? Aren’t dealers the ones that report the numbers - wouldn’t it be advantageous of them to report higher sale numbers so that others report their sales being sold over MSRP only to mislead the general public that is not informed? Who (if anyone) enforces and audits the accuracy of the numbers dealers report? I genuinely want to know. I hope Ray and Zach see this comment and dove into the legitimacy of the numbers. Thank you!

Im in the market for a Mazda Miata and I need advice. I messaged 14 dealerships and only a couple are dropping down the price. One offered 32k OTD and another offered 31.5K OTD. Should I take this or try going lower? FYI MSRP is 30,800.

I would keep looking. I googled a few Mazda dealers in my area (Boston), and all were either at MSRP or very slightly below. I hope you find a good deal somewhere soon!

@@99Hudson Thank you! I’m LA so a good deal is hard to come by! With a 31.5k OTD the MSRP would be around 28,000. That’s almost a 3,000$ discount. I feel like it’s gonna be tough to find a better deal!

I think $999 is too much for the service, and I probably wouldn’t use it. JMHO providing feedback. I could see it being more feasible and attractive in the sub $500 range.

$500 is probably less than break-even with labor and overhead.

Don’t forget, you’re also paying sales tax on that markup and financing costs as well.

How do they charge people over msrp? How do you avoid that charge? They try to get you on the monthly interest. Thw warranties. Etc.

People overpay for the Korea Trax? Really? Even with reliability trying to compete with Land Rover?

In my opinion paying for a car at MSRP guarantees the dealer at least a $5,000 profit on the sale.

I bought the Volvo xc70. My last on was a 2015. I will never buy another one , because the volvos are smaller and look like everyone else. There's no more iconic Volvo styling. The 90xc have been dumbed down in size and styling. No hauling room.

I think the new Volvos look pretty great, especially the small ones like the XC40 and C40 plus the EX30 and the sedans. Love Polestar as well.
