@@Users_rx so I don’t watch any specific welding channels as per say. Ideally you want someone that is going to explain how to properly set your welding for the material you’re using. To hot for your material and you’ll burn right through like they did in the video. My suggestion is search “proper welding techniques” check how many subs the channel has and also check some of the comments. There’s lots of good channels that will explain proper hand movement and adjusting your welder for the job your doing. I have a basic welding background because we had to do it for my trade.

The flux on outside of rod needs to be hot to exclude oxygen from weld. Pulsing an arc/stick welder will lead to a dirty weld. Please remember a tack weld is just to hold the items together before the proper weld process. Mig and tig use pre and post flow for the gas to eliminate oxygen stick or arc welding does not so it is a bit more dirty if you put lots of tacks together. Please remember there is a skill to knowing when your weld is a good flow with mig as its called crisp like bacon frying. Not like a fat old steak. Listen.......

The lowest amps my welder can go is 20 amps and even with the smallest rod, I touch it once and it burns through the metal. I really don’t see how I can weld these thin metals without tacking. So I feel like everyone saying this is wrong should really help me understand how I can actually properly weld without tacking on the thinnest of metal using stick. I’d appreciate that. Sometimes I think I may have a bad welding machine I don’t know 🤷.

I can almost guarantee you that all the welders saying turn the amperage down and use a thinner rod stick weld thick metal exclusively for a living and have never stick welded thin metal. And the ones who do weld thin metal are the ones saying to use a mig or tig machine. But if a cheap stick welder that doesn't have a whole range of adjustments is all you have, well you gotta piss with the cock you got. I really don't see how penetration is an issue in this case because you're doing a series of tacks because the electrode is literally penetrating too much to do a whole bead
@igorkevorkian16
4 ай бұрын
Tack with a 'tombstone'. I guess. Anything else learn to adjust your machine properly and use proper angles on the rod. Don't use hard penetrating rods on thin stuff. Guys sayin MIG probably don't know that won't help you either. My old job was working railcars. Stick and MIG on everything from 20g galvanized to 1" thick structural steel. A series of tacks will make metal stick together but I wouldn't suggest doing anything important that way.
@igorkevorkian16

@@Rampart.X Where's your clue since you seem to know.
@thora8624
3 ай бұрын
Penetration is not the main issue it's contaminated brittle welds that's the issue. Those tacks don't give the flux on the rod time to burn and eliminate the oxygen from the weld area before the arc is cut so every one of those tacks is contaminated. And I'm not even talking about the slag inclusions... Sure piss with the cock you got but then don't be surprised when it fails and the fuckin toilet falls apart and dumps everywhere cause your welds were all dog shit. Use the right tool for the job and you won't ever have problems. If you don't have the right tool maybe it's time to reconsider whether this is a job for you to be doing at all. I mean, go buy a little flux core box for $100 it will handle this shit all day long and actually produce solid dependable welds instead of hacking it like this.

La opción principal es usar un electrodo más fino y bajarle intensidad... ^^´

Yeah, instead of finding a hack for your $80 OSHA violation of a chinese made stick welder and whatever chintzium recipe rods it came with, we use the appropriate tools for the application at hand mkay? Maybe a smaller rod and lower amperage? Or better yet, mig/tig?

I’ve passed full pen 1 inch I beam vertical weld doing this for the rootpass cause there was a half inch gap and no backing plate or ceramic I could use. X rayed and everything n the inspector was like Dammn how’d you do it. Trucks of the trade if you know what you’re doing. Although it’s only if you have to

This is how you weld Chinesium together. It's a proven method for cheap imports. Enjoy.

I used to do right angles, with a MIG. Prep your materiallol. On a low setting you wouldn’t get these kind of instant blowouts and it’s quite easy to lay a consistent bead working with this box section. I’ve never welded stick but looks inefficient to me 😂

Tacking everything? Unfortunately if your doing _that_ practice this video isn't safety rated. I saw no safety sandals, safety pyjamas and you best be squinting as welding masks are too dark to be safe.

As an ironworker welder 40yrs + ...well ok, so any real welder knows the first thing you do is proper preparation but in this guy's case it means Preparation H because all his work looks like hemorrhoids hahaha! 🤣
