Maybe if chalk manufacturers stopped putting divots in the chalk to begin with people wouldn't intuitively do these this. Just send the chalk flat

Question - Why do u need to chalk the tip of cue stick?
@ronthepoolstudent
7 ай бұрын
When we use english, top spin or follow Rishab, we are striking the cue ball off center. Because of this, the tip would have a tendency to slip off the side of the cue ball without using chalk. When this happens, it known as a miscue. *Chalk creates grip so the tip does not skid off the side of the cue ball when a player uses spins. Thanks for your question 👍🏻
@joelcochran
11 күн бұрын
This is correct, but you should chalk upwards towards the center instead of downwards towards the edges. This loads the chalk up closer to the point of contact instead of wiping it away towards the edges.

I also chalk as shown. My chalk remains arced but ends up arced from side to side and corner to corner using the full face of the chalk. This makes the chalk last a long time. The small divot seems to help start this as long as the player doesn't think it means insert here and begin drilling.

Been playing pool for 20 years, and it doesn't matter lol. As long as the chalk is on the tip. I'd say dont spin it simply because it will wear your chalk down fast. But this weird idea that there is a special way to make the chalk stick onto the tip, is silly. Its just a fad that caught on. All the pros used to spins the chalk on the tip, didnt make them less of a pro. As long as the chalk stays on the tip, thats all that matters. But if you are buying 20 dollar one piece chalks, you might want to make it last lol.

You're right, its silly to think the way you chalk will affect the way it sticks to the tip. But reality is that this is the only logical way to apply chalk. Makes chalk last longer, less unnecessary chalk dust which will dirty the cue ball and felt, can make use of the chalk edges. When its a house cue and chalk it doesn't matter, but when its your own stuff, even if its a cube of silvercup, better use it "correctly".

Not really low deflection, but it will not leave a mark on the cue ball. Chalk marks on the cue ball can alter shots if the object ball hits that chalk mark. That's why professionals used to ask the referee to clean the cue ball. Now you almost never see that because they use the newest chalks.

Hello Robby. I created this video to demonstrate an efficient way to simply coat a cue’s tip. It is actually fine that others comment on this subject matter. There should be no issue hearing views by others, as long as everyone treats each other with respect. There should also be no reason to attack fellow Pool Player’s over their opinion to apply chalk to a Pool cue. Let’s all please remain respectful as we are in this together. Let’s instead support one another in this sport we all love and learn from each other. Thank you for understanding.
