In my state it’s not allowed because the eponychium is living skin. So when you cut it you are removing its purpose of protecting the nail from bacteria and germs. Hence why sometimes it’s all puffy/red/bleeds when done because it shouldn’t be removed. Great visual explanation!

The white parts are dead skin, the actual eponychium doesn’t look like that. It’s not taught or allowed in some places because techs are not medical professionals, so risking infection on the off chance you cut into living skin while cutting off that dead skin is not worth teaching to a tech

As a pharmacist and a prior nail tech. Never push back the eponychium & cut it. It's there to protect your nails especially if it's intact and attached to the nail plate. I never do it to my clients because of work ethics but all salons will think you are not good if you don't remove them (they don't have proper schooling to begin with).Once remove you may not have an infection but you are making the protection layer barrier weaker and also once remove the cuticles keep growing back and you will have an ugly hand unless you visit the salon every 2 weeks. But if you say this no one will believe you & they will say otherwise because they dont know. #proper education is important 😊 just like your gum. It's attached firmly into the teeth for reason and try poking it or pushing them gum lines back 😅 (but gum is more serious)

yep! this is the best way to do it. by cutting the proximal fold, ur just causing risk of infection. the proximal fold is there to protect from that, so it's counterproductive to remove it, and can often cut live skin and hurt as well. if live skin is cut, that just adds to that infection risk! all i do personally is cuticle oil and pushing it back everyday. that's genuinely all you need for the fold! exfoliating for actual cuticles (the dead skin) as well and ur nails should be perfect 😊

In my state, you cant use a drill on your natural nails. I worked in another state on a military base and customers would complain or comment on how i did things differently. We cant use pumice stone since it is hard to sanitize between customers. We couldnt use metal tools on skin, like metal foot files. Can not cut the eponychium since it is living skin. I also found out in school why you need to let your tech know if you have diabetes. Did the pedicure and allwas fine. Start soaking her feet and she starts bleeding. My instructor comes over and actaully told her to pay right now and leave and dont come back. She had sign paperwork stating she didnt so i proceeded like normal. So the nails became too short and lifted from her skin because of brittle nails from diabetes. Was not fun. I can also state that having someone unlicensed do nails usually ends up bad. Manager’s friend started at the salon even tho she had never done nails. She was constantly cutting customers and was not the greatest with anything except the massage. I started getting all her old customers until i moved.

“The keratinized PNF remains a relatively thin surface layer, until the PNF is chemically attacked, physically abraded/cut or injured. Then the surface layer becomes thicker and harder.” And “Even so, nail technicians should not intentionally abrade or cut intact skin from around the nail plate. Some might mistakenly believe that since its “keratinized”, it must be dead and not harmful to cut-but that is incorrect! Whether living or dead isn’t the issue. Can cutting or abrading cause skin infections or allergies? Yes!” Both quotes from Doug Schoon. You should tell your your clients who want this cut that if their goal is to have the skin be less rough then they are causing it by removing it.

@mellyr2584
Жыл бұрын
@@Zzz2x I use any press ons! Even really cheap ones like from Ross/five below/dollar tree. That being said, KISS press ons are my favorite because the designs are really pretty, consistent, and they’re super strong, but most importantly, the little pink glue droppers that come in the kits are the BEST glue for nails & that’s the secret. Any of the KISS glues you can buy as stand alones (that don’t come in a pack of press ons) ALL SUCK, like, SOO bad, especially anything that says “power flex” on it, that basically just means at least 2 your nails will pop by the end of the first day/night you wear them. If you see nails by the brand Pretty Woman, the glue in them is also really good and the designs are pretty but most of the time not consistent and need shaping, but they’re still a really good value brand for press ons because the glue in them is good and with shaping they can look really good! If you’re really committed to keeping the press ons then you should lightly buff your natural nails before you go to apply them. Grab a piece of toilet paper or paper towel. Then start at your pinkies, cover your whole natural nail in a LIGHT layer of the glue and then add a drop of glue to the underside of the press on. Start by lightly tucking the press on under the cuticle skin fold, and then press down. Hold it tight until it feels secure. There shouldn’t be any part of your nail that doesn’t have glue & isn’t in contact with the press on, no air bubbles. Then use the paper towel to clean up the excess glue that might come up around your cuticle & especially underneath the nail (only do this once the nail is secure) Start with the pinky on your non dominant hand and then the pinky on your dominant. Do the same for ring and middle. THEN do your thumbs, save the index fingers for last so you can use them to apply the rest of the nails securely first. If you lightly buff your natural nails, use the KISS glue from the packs, and make sure there aren’t any air bubbles, then they should last 7+ day. I just took of the ones I’ve been wearing since last Thursday (not this Thursday that just passed) and only one of them popped off today so I went ahead and removed them. If you’re just learning then I also recommend carrying the glue around just in case, but always re apply using the same method! I hope this helps!! I’ve been wearing press ons for 5 years so that’s just the method I’ve been using!

I also have very thin and gentle cuticle and cutting it easily may cause it to bleed, so I see no reason for torturing it and cutting if it is just fine being removed by the remover/moisturized and “pushed” by wooden stick. I really believe that not everyone’s cuticle needs to be cut.

She always tells her clients to wear more than 1 pair of shoes to avoid a stink building up and to keep your cuticles hydrated with oil or lotion Also I can’t lie, as someone with sensitive cuticles, seeing you use a drill bit on her cuticles gives me the heebie jeebies 😭

you’re confused by yourself. we don’t touch eponychium in Russia as well, it’s a loving skin. what you’re talking about here is curricula and pterygium

I took courses in Russia years ago. The terminology is different and here we don’t use the word pterygium. Here that word is known as a medical condition. So no I am not confused the terminology is different

I bust out my Dremel. I was on a sick one last time I Dremelled. I made my toenails paper thin with a stone bit and carved out an ingrown toenail with a carbide cutting bit. Boy was there a lot of blood. I didn’t feel anything though. Now I’m soaking my feet in bleach. My feet are at foot model level of beauty now. Not bad for standing in work boots 10 hours a day 😂

@dalegribble7125

@@funsizedi88 I started working on my feet with a Dremel over a decade ago. The efficiency is unmatched with good 1/4” bits. My toenails were thick from my steel toed boots. I’ve seen what thick nails do to peoples feet. So I took care of the problem with what I had on hand. Fast forward a couple years. My toe nails started yellowing and growing thick at the edges. Figured out it was some type of fungus. I used tea tree oil and my Dremel to take care of the problem. The tea tree oil took a while to rid the problem. Plus the smell of pure tea tree oil is really potent. So I thought about it a while. What do you spray on mold in the bathroom? Bleach. What did I soak dishes and pans in at the meat department to kill all the germs and bacteria? Bleach. Well, I found out what kills toenail fungus, it’s Bleach. If you want to scrub the diluted bleach off afterwards with soap, go for it. Yes, I soaked my feet in bleach this morning and last night. I took my work boots off and smelled my feet for the first time in a couple years. Don’t know why. But today? No smell. I’m just maintaining my vessel. I’ll maintain your feet for free. Being a 1994 dope baby you’ve gotta be resourceful 🤣

@@callmechia I appreciate that. I barely payed attention in High School and I almost failed English. If you think I’m at the level of Chat GPT, that’s sweet of you. I’m actually glad you think I’m trolling. Just because you’ve never touched a dremel doesn’t mean there’s not people out here who use it every day at their job. I know what I’m doing. I prefer pneumatic pencil grinders with a 1/4 collet installed. But I don’t have a big enough compressor or air tank at home to run it continuously. What’s the difference between washing white clothes by hand in bleach and soaking your feet once in a while in bleach? Nothing! I bet y’all’s shoes’ stink like death. 😂

Do you moisturise? I find my skin only gets dry if I don't use lotion, but if I apply some to problem areas like hands, elbows, etc. then they become naturally soft again in about a week, and you can even stop putting lotion on for a while after that!

because depending on how the pnf is removed it can lead to bacteria getting under there and causing a nail infection so some states won’t allow it to be removed to protect the client. and possibly the nail shop from getting sued

@@reginarose1676it’s not the instruments that cause infection, it’s the removal of a protective barrier. Removing it allows regular bacteria you encounter everyday to get in when it previously couldn’t which causes an infection.

You're still causing trauma to the proximal nail fold by pushing it back at all. It's the number one thing dermatologist would NEVER do to their own fingernails. It's completely unnecessary and causes the texture to change because you messed with them. That is LIVING TISSUE that needs to be left alone.
@cocoaicci_

This isn't dermatology, this is nail anatomy. As long as you don't push back too hard your skin will be fine. You can use cuticle softeners to make it more easy to push back
@violetviolet888

@@cocoaicci_ Dermatology absolutey includes nail care. In fact, it's best for nails need to be polish free as an added means to assess health and disease. Look it up. There are several dermatologists who are very vocal about getting the world out that it is in the top three or ten of things they would never do and suggest to everyone else: never push back your proximal nail fold (what consumers perceive to be cuticles). There is literally NO reason to do it. It is living tissue that when pushed back causes it trauma and it will get thick, inflamed, crack, etc because it was messed with. All it is is extra time your paying for from a manicurist - you're paying for them to traumatize your skin which in this context is the only barrier protecting foreign bacteria, fungus, and physical particles from entering that area.
