Timers are actually utilized in a lot of adhd coping strategies. People think it's ridiculous that i use timers for nearly everything (and a bullet journal, and calendars, and dnd dice) but i have so much more free time and motivation to actually do what i need to do (but don't necessarily WANT to do) if i just set deadlines for everything.

My job is pretty different from Craig's, but I mainly have to write stuff and collaborate in a WFH job and it's remarkable how similar the creative process and challenges are to what he's saying. I even picked up Notion for scheduling the day before he started talking about it. Stopping while I'm still excited to work on something really helps me. Motivating myself to get back to it is really hard for me because it's not "my" project like it is for him, which I really envy. But even just thinking about why I'm doing it and what the end point is can help me feel more of a sense of ownership over it.

I rarely ever play, write and record music anymore although it used to be my main passion. Because I’ve lived in a van for years, my “studio” involves setup and breakdown time. I’m also limited by electricity, as my leisure batteries can only power my computer for a certain amount of time. Then there is the ergonomics and the inability to achieve ideal posture within my space. So I see that as another time constraint where my back will begin to hurt after a while of working, often before my battery dies. There is also poor climate control (sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold), as well as the logistics of traveling to a quiet place to park where I can feel comfortable setting up and doing the whole thing. Long story short, I feel like time is the ultimate hurdle in all of this. If I could get anything productive done in 10 minutes then none of these things would be an issue. But often times I feel like I’m barely getting started before every one of them becomes a problem.

Creating a habit or a process for doing a particular thing is often about removing the barriers. I’m constantly doing this in my garden (food forest) so I’ll get out there more often. I can totally relate to the barriers keeping you from creating music.

For me the best advice was: end your daily work at a point where things are flowing, not where you are stuck. Plus: don’t spend too much time with work or you’ll burn out. I am still suffering from my previous burnout, and I don’t want to repeat that work obsession ever again…

Your ramblings are on point. I work at a hospital and, while my days are already somewhat planned, I am expected to do other things (e.g. study for boards, read for the sake of staying on top of my field, carry out a research project...etc.). Many of my peers admit to compromising to get things done - either on clinical work or leisure time at home. I struggle to get these academic activities done on time because I do not handle interruptions at work well (task inertia is real!) and absolutely will not take work with me home - my time out of work is my umbilical cord. Your video today was enlightening; detailing the end goal does sound like it would help put together a more purposeful plan to get there. I'll try that :) thank you!

All these "rambling poopy puddle" videos have a very 'behind the scenes / director's commentary' vibe to them. And I'm here for it 👍

I am only 1:35 into the video, but I wanted to answer your question. Yes..I like these ramblings, because you're fun to listen to, and you even inspired me to try a similar thing on my KZitem channel, but you're much more watchable. But...I have so few viewers anyway, it is more for my sanity, and hobby, I guess you could say. My videos could be about anything, and that is my problem...I think. No central theme. I have been at it about 10 or more years, and got my first check just before they changed the requirement to 1000 subs and I can't even get there. So, now it's really all about a parking place for my thoughts and some family videos in case some wants to watch when I am dead and gone. There's something therapeutic about making something that might last beyond my lifetime. Love your stuff.

Craig. you are one of the best storytellers here on the Tube. Whether you are rambling or your filmmaker's skills. Goosen Crane was Niles and Frasier's older brother. Everyone knew he was there, yet no one ever mentioned it on the show.

Question. What is this magic about making a plan and you have less to do than you thought you did?? It's the opposite for me. When I make a plan, everything multiplies like geese and I run out of time. And they're chasing me. And it's a nightmare. In fact I think that was a dream I had last night...
