Really appreciated the video, Harry! I just picked up a small shovel, already have a standard garden size with a short handle. Also got a 60" Hi Lift, and a base for it. Lastly, got a 1" kinetic rope and a couple of soft shackles. An off brand from Amazon, but should get me unstuck at least a few times.

Pretty good advice I’ll add two things. One, when using a screw shackle always back off 1/4 turn before applying load. They will stretch and sometimes make the pin hard to get out. Two, to keep the pin in a shackle when on a vehicle I use Teflon tape on the threads. It’s just enough resistance to keep them from vibrating loose but still easy to unscrew.

I tighten mine with a screw driver. That way someone won't steel it. When I need it I always have my tools handle to loosen up.

An overlooked item I take with me folks don't think about are a pair of coveralls. Your going to get dirty if your stuck. You need to get down in the dirt or water or snow, all lead to mud! If my Scout gets "stuck" it's gonna take work to get out.

Those shovels are junk, use a short standard shovel. As a highly experienced offroader, hooking like that can bend the hooking points inward as they are designed to pull straight out. I've bent a set before doing that.
@HarrySituations

But how often is the pull actually straight? Even if I just used one point, it would have been at an angle unless my truck was also in the ditch. My logic was that using two points spread out the load, but I can see how they could bend with a hard side pull.

@@HarrySituations just keep it in mind, it creates alot leverage on the point, bent way easier than it should have. 1998 zr2 factory points, super beef

Thanks Harry, it’s time for me to get a 3/4” rope and some soft shackles. What length do you recommend for a first rope?

I like 30 foot ropes. Sometimes I will double it back to the vehicle if it is too long.

A few things you failed to mention. Airing down gives you less ground clearance, and will not help if you are bottomed out on the frame or axles. And...Nitto tires offer no more or less traction than the competition. Implying they do, and that you don't need to worry about getting stuck with them, is a sign of real ignorance. It makes everything else you say questionable to anyone with an IQ over 11.

I clearly said that this video is brought to you by Nitto. I apologize if that came across as misleading.
