If you adjust the shadow/exposure slider, actually the shadow/exposure is locked. Try to spin around your Pixel 6 Pro. Otoh, focus cannot be locked. You can only track objects in frame instead of locking. If you tap on other objects, notice that exposure/shadow is still locked. Unlike Pixel 4a which reset the exposure when you tap on another object. So, Pixel 6 Pro: - Exposure/shadow lock = can. - Focus lock = cannot lock, can only track.

Rizky - thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think what's happened is that Google has updated the camera between my filming this and uploading it. In my testing, if I adjusted the shadow/exposure slider and then panned the camera the exposure would shift drastically. If you look at the video footage I captured, it happens multiple times. I'll pin your comment to clarify for others!

I don't like the inability to select options like in a fully functional pro mode. It's pretty much their way only. Video is OK, but janky at times.

Marco - that's what I'm guessing. I looked and looked for a solution to the problem and found none. Then I spent two days shooting and editing and now I look like an idiot😂😂 I did borrow a buddy's Pixel 6 Pro so I wasn't able to retest to confirm before posting. Even still, I think the video does a good job of showing what the phone can do. I hope you found some of it helpful. Cheers - Joe

So are you going to do a comparison between the Pixel 6 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro? Because that would be a great video. I've seen a lot of biased videos out there and they haven't been as informative as I would like to see. In my in-depth review of the iPhone 13 Pro versus the six Pro while I had both of them side by side, I did some photo comparisons and it was just so tough to make calls as to who was better. At least in the photography department up until you get to low light photography and then I noticed kind of surprising result. The iPhone actually performed more consistently in low light settings. However, when the pixel was consistent, it was way better than the iPhone 13 Pro. Let me know what you think when you do your video

10:49 Not the camera app, but the Google Photos app, aka the native gallery app.

I get your point. I figured by getting to the photo with a single click it was close enough to still being in the native camera app. Add in the fact that it comes standard with the phone (ie you don't need to download anything additional to use it) the verbiage worked. Apologies for the confusion!

Interesting. So, in your opinion, which smartphone is the best for landscape photography?
@photoswithphones

Hùng Lê - great question. Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G or iPhone 13 Pro Max depending on your proficiency and patience. The Galaxy has the most megapixels so photos can be edited and cropped more than other devices. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the most consistent and user-friendly option that includes easy-to-use RAW capture. I hope this helps!

@@photoswithphones Joe... Actually I can see advantages of using only a cell phone. Besides convenience, size, minimalist, quick internet access - a cell phone can make you a better photographer because you have to think about your shots. I have bridge cameras, point and shoot cameras, DSLRs (4) and my Pixel 3A. I wished the Pixel 3A allowed you to set manual camera settings in camera program without having to use a 3rd party camera application. I'm still undecided if I should buy some Moment lenses or use that money for a Pixel upgrade. Best wishes Duane

Duane - thanks for the kind words. I've thought about trying to use a traditional camera for fun, but I've just never gotten around to it. Perhaps I never will. FYI I'll be making a video of the Pixel 6 Pro with all the Moment lenses soon! Cheers - Joe

Hi Joe I enjoy your videos!! Now I have two questions: my Pixel 3A had 64GB needs to be replaced. Should I look for a used 4A5G, a Pixel 5, or the 6 but not the Pro 6? Also I'm thinking of using some Moment Lenses so which lenses would you suggest I consider? Best wishes Duane

@@photoswithphones Hi Joe Thanks for the reply and no worries on my part on your response time!! Almost out of internal memory space on my 3A and with some complaints on the P6/Pro 6 I went with a refurbished (looks new) Pixel 5A5G. My decision came down to still having a rear finger print sensor and battery life. I thought it might be a good step up from the 3A. Best wishes Duane

Hi Joe I enjoyed this video and it is making my decion about a phone harder. My Pixel 3A is running out of memory and need to replace it. My question should I seriously look at the 5A 5G as a replacement? If I go with the 5A 5G I may get some Moment lenses to use with it. Best wishes Duane

Dude I totally feel you on this. I ended up having the Pixel 6 Pro, then I went back to my Pixel 4 XL because I felt that the photos in some instances were actually better, then I went to the Pixel 6, then to the iPhone 12 then to an iPhone 13 Pro then back to the Pixel 4 XL then back to an iPhone 13 Pro and then decided to use my daily driver as a Pixel 6 Pro. But now after using it, I'm actually going to go back to my Pixel 4 XL. Because honestly the photo improvements unless you're zooming really aren't that noticeable and in some instances they're worse.

Thanks for the thorough thoughts! I haven't personally used the Pixel 4 but I've used the 4a with 5G. I do prefer it to the Pixel 6 Pro. I do have to say though that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is my favorite phone for video and certain kinds of photography. What do you not like about it?

@@photoswithphones probably the biggest thing about the iPhones since the xs on up is the motion blur issue with moving objects. So when using it specifically for subjects that move often, like children for instance, there are more times that most issues with motion blur for the subjects versus the pixel devices have always been more consistent without issue specifically when taking photos of moving objects using portrait mode. Also portrait mode as a whole has always been more consistent in my opinion than the iPhone models.
