I feel that the way Peter Pan is structured is how being a kid is like. 1. For a while, you just enjoy the playfulness around you and get invested in it. 2. But when the seriousness hits, and the kids have to make serious decisions that could affect them permanently, I see that as a metaphor for life. That’s why I feel like a lot of people enjoy the film so much because it reminds people of how they felt growing up. Oh and Captain Hook and Smee just steal the show!

Well, one thing I think you're overlooking about Peter Pan, Brian, it's this: It's about Wendy. See, Wendy get saddened that her father says that it's time for her to grow up, so she wants to run away to a land of endless childhood fantasy, yet when she gets there, she finds that after a bit, it doesn't bring her as much pleasure as it would if she were younger. She starts to realize that her father's right. She spends a good portion of the movie jealous of mermaids and Tiger Lily which shows that her mind is less and less on playtime and more on boys and romance. She starts the movie afraid to grow up, but comes to realize that since this land of endless childhood fun brings her little pleasure, it's already begun. Same concept is in Alice in Wonderland too.

If I ever had some Disney hot takes it would be these 1. While Wish is obviously a flawed movie and could have done better in a LOT of areas, it honestly isn’t “the worst Disney movie ever made” as many people over-exaggerate, even if they self-righteously say it’s “without exaggeration.” And its animation, while not the best 2.5-D animation in film history, is also bashed too hard. 2. Cars 2 is NOT the worst Pixar film, while still flawed, I honestly liked Cars 2. And I’d honestly say Lightyear is a worse Pixar movie than Cars 2. 3. The Force Awakens is the ONLY good movie in The Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars. Unlike TLJ and TROS, this movie honestly feels well-paced and not rushed, and knows when to introduce a character old or new. And it wasn’t even trying to fix the problems that its predecessor had unlike the next two movies. Though I’m just going to say it….. Both Rey AND Finn should have been the main characters/force-sensitive and should have been a Jedi duo (with Rey wielding Luke’s first lightsaber and Finn wielding Luke’s second one). 4. Pandora, Galaxy’s Edge, Rise of the Resistance, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are the only good recent additions to the Disney Parks IMO. 4. Not all of the late-Eisner era stuff in the Disney Parks from the late 90s-early 2000s was bad; I know this is probably my nostalgia speaking, but still. 5. After experiencing what WDW was like during the pandemic without FastPass or the dreaded Lightning Lane, I now feel that fast-passes shouldn’t be a thing at all as they made stand-by lines even worse. 6. Disney didn’t “make The Simpsons worse,” they were already on a decline after the movie. And with the exception of Blue Sky Studios being shut down and a name change, 20th Century Fox was the LEAST effected thing after being acquired by Disney. 7. While Disney’s live action remakes were never needed to begin with there are some good ones like Jungle Book (2016), Aladdin (2019), Christopher Robin, and Mary Poppins Returns. 8. Onward is the most underrated/overhated Pixar movie ever, and I’m honestly tired of the whole “Jack Black should have been Barley instead of Chris Pratt” stuff. I still hate how the pandemic was the BIGGEST reason this movie got banished into obscurity.

Brian, I think you and I are kind of in the same boat when it comes to Peter Pan. I don’t think it’s awful but it’s not one that I’d pop into the dvd player every day. The animation’s decent. I always laugh my head off when it comes to Hook and the crocodile. Though something I realized was that there were 3 things that I mainly remembered. One was Peter, Wendy, John and Michael are flying to Neverland with the song, “You can fly” playing. Another was all the scenes with Captain Hook and that’s mainly due to Hans Conreid as the voice. And the third is Hook’s ship covered in Pixie Dust as it flies off Neverland, it’s a great visual. If it really wants to show the Neverland kids playing games before it’s time for Hook, there should at least be fun games. At least in Return to Neverland, it shows the kids playing in the mud or jumping off trees or interacting with the animals.

I thought a lot of people hated Chicken Little. I do agree with you though. Chicken Little was awful. The characters were rotten to the core towards a literal child over a misunderstanding and his father did nothing about it. Plus the animation is ugly to look at. It also tried way too hard to be like Shrek with all of the pop culture references. As far as The Black Cauldron and Meet the Robinsons go, I kind of agree. I didn’t care too much for The Black Cauldron. I thought Taran and Gurgi were insufferable. Taran goes on and on and on about how he wants to be a warrior, but he does nothing but whine and complain. Gurgi’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I thought Meet the Robinsons was fine. Nothing fantastic, but it wasn’t bad either. I do like the message of keep moving forward. It’s a good motivation for people who are down on their luck. I just didn’t find the story itself to be too compelling. Now Atlantis and Peter Pan, I will respectfully disagree with you on. I really enjoyed both movies. Peter Pan was a lot of fun to watch, especially Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. Those two were the best part of the movie. Atlantis took me by surprise. I really didn’t have any high expectations going into the movie, but after watching it, I was surprised that I had enjoyed it as much as I did. I liked the characters, the story, and even the twist villain. I’m not the biggest fan of twist villains, usually because they become a completely different character after the reveal, but this one still felt like the same character, even after the reveal. That was something that characters like Hans and Bellwether failed at. They became completely new characters after the reveal.

I thought Peter Pan was a good story about how Wendy didn't want to grow up and wanted to be in a place where she could have an endless childhood but realized it wasn't for her and decided it was best for her to grow up and move on with her life and of course Captain Hook was a great villain. I do agree Peter Pan's Flight is overrated and wouldn't wait an hour for it and I also think Meet the Robinson's is a Back to the Future ripoff.

WHAT?! You don't like peter pan?! You're a huge disney fan, I assumed you were a big fan of it. Ngl, this one kinda hurt, but its ok. Here are my hot takes. I actually enjoy some of the live action remakes and the movie wish. I know a lot of people don't like the live action remakes, but the live action beauty and the beast and aladin are really good imo. The only ones I think are bad because of their lame CGI on the animals are the live action lion king and little mermaid. The CGI on the animals needs a whole lotta work. They failed to make the balance of realistic, and cartoony and expressive. Watching the live action lion king just feels like your watching an episode of national geographic. And it feels weird hearing them talk when they just look too realistic. And about wish, I think it was a beautiful movie that did justice to disney's 100th anniversary. Hating on that special movie that celebrates their 100th anniversary is like saying you wish disney never existed. (Pun unintended). People just hate to hate at this point. People think the only thing that would get them to love disney again is for them to bring back 2D animation, but disney brought it back in "once upon a studio", and people paid no mind to it. So i dont understand these so-called "fans".

Honestly, I don't blame you for hating Peter Pan. I mean the movie is okay, but it's honestly a bit overhyped in my opinion. Also, it's racist towards indigenous people. Like why was that a necessary part of the film? You could've just left out that whole scene and the movie would've still been fine if not a little better.

Okay, gonna leave my own hot take. I’m not a fan of the newer Mickey Mouse cartoons by Paul Ruddish. They aren’t awful but the voices they gave to Mickey and Minnie can get really irritating and I really don’t like what they did to Goofy. He looks like a hobo, it’s gross.

Disneyland has teased that Paint the Night may be coming back to Disneyland. No date has been announced, but they have teased that it’s possibly coming back. If I had to guess it probably going to be around Disneylands 70th Anniversary 🎉. Great video, Brain. Hope you are doing well. 😊

Correction: only Universal made that version. Disney has no involvement, but they did snatch one of the BGMs from that movie for their Disneyland commercials in the 2000's.

I respect your opinion, but I love Meet the Robinsons and think it’s an underrated masterpiece! I agree that the family aspect is extremely goofy and haphazard, but it doesn’t bother me that much. Plus, there are so many hilarious jokes, Bowler Hat Guy is a funny and threatening villain, and I absolutely love the message it teaches about not giving up on your dreams, learning from your failures, and *KEEP MOVING FORWARD!* P.S. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that The Good Dinosaur is incredibly overhated.

Honestly, I think The Good Dinosaur is Pixar’s most overheated feature. I get it that for a studio renowned for their tightly-written screenplays, the straightforward storytelling knocked a lot of Pixar fans back. But here’s the thing: it’s not supposed to be a complicated story. Once in a while, simpler stories are better stories, and I think TGD is one of those cases. The script doesn’t need a dozen subplots or backstories for each and every character - Arlo finding his bravery through his relationship with Spot is enough. I know a lot of people aren’t keen on the animation either, particular how jarring it is to have very cartoony character designs paired with photorealistic backgrounds. I get it, but I honestly don’t mind it. It reminds me of how many of the hand-drawn Disney movies looked. If you really examine them, the characters tended to be very cartoony and flat-shaded whilst the backgrounds, whilst not photorealistic, leant a lot more on the realistic style with extra shading and textures. So personally, TGD’s animation just feels like a 3D equivalent of classic Disney. Does the movie have problems? Of course it does. The “getting high of rotten fruit” scene, although brief, is as pointless as it is out of place. And the reference to Aron Ralston’s autobiography ends up making a joke out of a very serious true story. So don’t get me wrong, it’s not their best feature by any stretch. Even so, if I’m in the mood for something that’s easygoing, charming and relatively short whilst still full of heart, The Good Dinosaur is exactly the sort of movie I put on. I still remember being one of the few people to go see it in the cinema, and at the moment where Arlo smashes his head against a rock whilst being carried by the rapids, one of the fellow audience members went “OOOH!”. She obviously felt all the right emotions when watching it, and I felt them too. ❤

My Disney hot takes: • Brother Bear is way better than the critics say it is. • Paul Rudish’s Mickey Mouse shorts (2013-2023) are the best incarnation of Mickey and friends. • Pocahontas is meh… • The Sword In The Stone lacks focus and a plot. • The Jungle Book (2016) is the only legitimately good live action remake. • Beauty And The Beast is better than both Aladdin and Tangled. • Home On The Range has good songs. • The CGI in Dinosaur aged surprisingly well. • I don’t understand the appeal of DCOMs. • I liked Wish. • Disney should do less live action remakes and more stage musical adaptations; I can see them doing Mulan, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Monsters Inc. really well.

For me. The biggest draw for Peter Pan is the scene and the song that plays, "You Can Fly" when they're flying to Neverland. Its one of the most beautifully animated scenes in Disney history, imo. The rest of the movie is alright thougb. The scenes with the natives have not aged well.

my hot take: kung fu panda 4 is a masterpiece, and people who can’t see that have clearly gone blind from overexposure to pure awesomeness all of the movies have a recurring plot where po’s experience, training, and failures pay off, which happens once again in this film. the theme of the movie is what po told zhen, “it’s never too late to do the right thing.” it applied not only to zhen and tai lung, but also to po it started with the same formula of shifu telling po he has to step out of his comfort zone and learn something new to better himself, but just like po, the movie changes. po has advanced in kung fu, inner peace, and chi faster than anyone, even oogway himself. shifu wanted po to be like oogway, but po didn’t want to change. but on his journey he took his own advice and decided to do the right thing and choose a new dragon warrior. and he had amazing character growth along the way oogway could have defeated tai lung at any time. but instead, he let po, his successor, defeat tai lung. in kung fu panda 4, we find out po could’ve beaten the chameleon any time with the staff, but instead, he let zhen, his successor, defeat her (or at least get a good hit in) but after po revealed he could’ve broken out and beaten her himself, he gets the final blow and returns the kung fu to all of the masters she stole it from. this movie was po’s movie, he got more time to shine and prove that he was a more than worthy successor of oogway. like i said, shifu wanted po to be like oogway, but po didn’t want to change. in the first kung fu panda, shifu was mad about oogway’s pick for the dragon warrior because nothing about him said dragon or warrior. po’s pick as the next dragon warrior had the same affect on shifu. like oogway says, “one often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.” po went on an adventure with zhen so he wouldn’t have to pick a new dragon warrior, yet on this adventure he realized that zhen was destined to be his successor and the next dragon warrior as for the lesson that po taught zhen, it went perfectly with the theme of this film. people can change. po changed, zhen changed, the villain changed a lot, and even tai lung changed. this is one of my favorite plots from the entire franchise. po of all people would know it’s never too late to change, because in the first movie, he was a nobody. he even told shifu “every time you threw a brick at my head, or said i smelled, it hurt, but it could never hurt more than it did every day of my life just being me.” po thought it was too late for him to change, so he tried to escape the jade palace explaining why he stayed, “i thought if anyone could change me, could make me not me, it was you.” and shifu was able to change him and even put him on the path to being equal to oogway. this is not how it was for chameleon, who i thought was a great villain. hear me out, chameleon is basically the reverse of po, people thought po was too large to do kung fu even though he wasn’t, and people thought chameleon was too small to do kung fu even though she wasn’t despite being beaten and rejected so many times, po pushed through and became a legendary kung fu master, while the chameleon took rejection too personal and went on a rampage because of it because she most likely didn’t have someone like oogway to inspire her po is all about being himself and doing his own thing, which was made very clear in the first movie. but the chameleon is all about being jealous of others and doing other people’s things. tai lung, lord shen, and kai all committed genocide, but not chameleon the worst thing chameleon did was push someone down the stairs, which wasn’t meant to show us what she could do, it was meant to show us what she couldn’t do and what she was willing to do to be able to do what she wish she could do. she had no talent in kung fu, so she would do anything to make her way to the top she knew what po was capable of, and he was the final test of her strength after she stole the kung fu from all the other masters she gave po the staff that way she could fight the dragon warrior at his best. which is why she called it “a final face off between formidable adversaries alike in so many ways.” there, in the final battle is where they showed us what she could do. she’s like no other villain the first villain was a student, and the villain of his teacher, shifu’s past, the second villain was the villain of po’s past, and the third villain was the villain of oogway’s past. but this time, the villain was the teacher rather the student, and the villain of zhen’s past. speaking of zhen, her dynamic with po was one of the best parts of the movie. her redemption arc was conspicuous yet satisfying, as it brought po’s wisdom from kung fu panda 2 to life. her and po seem incompatible since she’s a thief, yet they make a great duo, and zhen makes a great successor the “dragon warrior” title is an idea of taking nothing and making something out of it. like how shifu made a great warrior out of po and po made a great inspiration out of a blank page. zhen was nothing before she met po because she was a thief and a lying traitor. zhen was raised by an evil villain and betrayed everyone who loved her, yet po was so pure of heart that his kindness helped her get on the right path, and genuinely made her care about po. before this, zhen was given “rules” of the street by the chameleon zhen recites 2 of these rules after betraying po. but after the chameleon pushes po off the edge, zhen is upset by this and the chameleon tells zhen about a third rule of the street, which was “nobody cares about your feelings.” and it’s the first time zhen heard it. the reason why zhen never knew about that rule up until that point was because she never had feelings for anyone or cared about anyone else until she saw the chameleon hurt po, which is why the chameleon never had to tell zhen that rule until then. the pendant that the chameleon gives to zhen is supposed to be the equal opposite of the peach pit that po gives her. they’re the same size and shape, and the pendant had cost due to it being a gem, but it served no purpose besides looking nice, nor had any fundamental value. the pit, just like the dragon scroll, seems like nothing, but has real value to zhen because it holds the promise of actual growth, which she takes to heart in the final battle. all po truly needed to stand up to tai lung, his first villain, was his faith in himself. all zhen needed to stand up to the chameleon, her first villain, was po’s faith in her. the start of the first kung fu panda trilogy ended with masters who didn’t like po at first bowing to him, the start of the second kung fu panda trilogy ended with masters who didn’t like po at first bowing to him (except lord shen since he still hates pandas) in the first 3 movies, the b plot was ping being afraid of losing po, but they switched it up this time. i think everyone can agree that the b plot in this film is the best b plot in any kung fu panda movie li shan pretending to be a master of kung fu to scare the thugs, while they’re only scared of him because he’s fat and could make the building fall, yet he thought they were scared of him because he thought that they thought he was a kung fu master was a stroke of genius. the furious five may have not been in it, but li and ping were a good substitute. they had a bigger connection to po which allowed him to have the most spotlight in this film. li and ping were the ones who helped made sure that po had his heart in the right place. which seems to be a theme of this film. in kung fu panda, po strengthens his body by learning kung fu, in kung fu panda 2, po strengthens his mind by finding inner peace, in kung fu panda 3, po strengthens his spirit by mastering chi, in kung fu panda 4, po strengthens his heart by letting zhen in it after she hurt him

I'm a fan of Atlantis and Meet the Robinsons. They're not masterpieces really, but I think they're solid, entertaining movies. The Black Cauldron is pretty bad though. The animation is pretty cool and I like some of the dark imagery, but I really can't stand it. I understand why you enjoy The Good Dinosaur. I don't at all, but I can understand aspects of the appeal.

Frankly, the only reason why the lines for the Peter Pan rides are so long is because it's one of the worst ride in the park when it comes to getting guests through the ride itself. While there are multiple omni-mover attractions in the Disney Parks, Peter Pan's holds a special place because it's inverted...but it shares the same weakness as all omni-mover attractions as each cart can only load in 2 people at a time (3 if you have small kids/kid). Rides like Haunted Mansion and Little Mermaid are better at getting guests in and out of the ride because the carts themselves are flatter from front-to-back; the rides themselves can fit more on the track and, therefore, put more people on the ride every hour. Peter Pan's Flight has the worst/largests spacing between carts because you're flying on ships that reach well in front of the guests as well as behind; it can never fit in as many people as other attractions. But, due to its inverted nature and people's nostalgic hooks to Peter Pan itself (even if it's not from the Disney movie as there are multiple variations from stage to screen of the character), it's going to continue to pull in crowds regardless of how quickly/slowly the ride itself allows them to get on.
