I worked in chain production for big brands that I can't name for legal reasons, but each worker has about 20 seconds or less to finish each seam, the workers work for about 8 hours a day or more so that dress is probably being made in a few minutes start to finish. (I left that awful job after a week because it's horrible). The cost of the fabric, being polyester is really really low. I don't know how much but remember that factory buys fabric in big rolls so the cost is even lower that fabric stores. The fact that this dress is shapeless and without seam finishes means that of the 128€ it's sold for, 110 is profit and the rest is cost of labour and materials. Seriously guys, just learn how to sew or find a seamstress nothing is worth it these days and it's actually an awful and really sad reality we live in, but we can fight brands by calling out on their bullishit and buying smarter and better materials (avoid poliester so it encourages brands to use natural material again) or buying used or from small brands that care about workers and consumers.

the ONLY way to fight back against corporations is with your money- they don’t care about anything else. stop giving them your money, and then they’ll do something about everything people are complaining about. as long as the profits keep rolling in, they’ll just give us the finger. I’m getting to the point where I just want to be totally self sufficient, because I’m about done with all this crap. we need to all organize a large scale strike of sorts, where we don’t use these businesses for a set period of time…problem is getting enough people to do it, so it hits them hard. I don’t think enough people are willing to give up their modern creature comforts for the betterment of society.

I sew and agree the markup is insane for such a simple garment its about 2 yards of fabric retail that fabric is $10-20 / yard cutting takes about 20 min tops min with the fabric laid out and pinned then pinned under pattern weights then cut with a giant clothing jigsaw. piece workers piece it together and sew it, then send it to the installers and finishers for zippers and bindings they usually get paid per garment they finish. it would take most experienced home sewists about 3 hours to complete this dress at home . it cost the manufacturer about $40 to produce for materials and labor retail , they marked it up 30%

This is why I’ve had the same jeans and t-shirt combo for the past 10 years. They’re cheap, durable, and never go out of style. And they’re okay to wear for practically any demographic.

It doesn't actually appear to be unfinished. It looks like it is a machine knit edge, so it's the same type of finish as a very simple sweater.

It actually looks like knit fabric that they cut straight from the bolt. But you can do this with some knit fabrics and not have any fraying. So to the eye the knit looks unfinished. It's a stylistic choice they can make for that reason though. I have a piece like this and it does not fray.

I'm in the UK so don't have that brand but I always check for stitching as I can sew and materials as I hate polyester. My favourite fabric is bamboo so soft and silky feeling.

This is the only way I’ve shopped since I can remember. I don’t care about a logo, I want quality and something that fits my style that will last a long time and is comfortable.

Can you do a video on what to look for in shoes to determine quality?

This happened to me with 100% lambs wool jumpers.. one was blue and one was brown.. the blue one was way way way softer! And the brown one was kinda itchy a little more corse.. they were the same item just colour difference… it’s literally impossible to win anymore in the retail world!

Sometimes that's not necessarily indicative of lower quality wool, but the result of a different dyeing process used to create a different colour. Still, it shows that they don't have good quality control because they should have caught that issue before it made it to stores.

@@morningglory10 never said it was lower quality 💁♂️ but quality is subjective to personal preference too 😌 all I was saying is that from my experience even if you buy the same item, just in a different colour.. you’re not safe 💁♂️

This is what I do for any item of clothing I purchase. If it's not made well for the price, I won't buy it. This is also why I've been teaching myself how to sew. I've made a few skirts and want to learn to make mid and long sleeve tops next. Eventually, I will know how to make most of my own clothes and have a better understanding of the money and time that goes into them to more easily ask myself if I want to make the item myself or purchase the already made item.

I did that~ and i always touch the fabric before buying. Like really2 feeling it. Cuz so many brands sells their items too expensive for cheap fabrics.

Lol, mistaking a jumpsuit for a dress 😂. I do that all the time, then get embarrassed about being so dumb. So glad I'm not the only one 🤭

I bought two things in & other stories. Having in mind what you said recently about this brand I was very cautious 😅 Those two pieces are all cotton, well executed, stitches are even and firm, tissue is not super thin. And I got the uniqlo coat, it's amazing! ❤
