I rescued a pot of snake plants that had been growing, in the same Bakelite pot, for over 60 years, as my husbands grandmother was tired of caring for it and tried to murder the poor thing, and it has taken a year an a half to nurture it back to health, and I am now getting new pups again! I live in a desert climate though, and I have to water the plant every ten days or so as it is DRY and hot out here, but I agree that in more temperate climates, you should only water snake plants about once a month! People definitely overwater sansiveria…

Thanks Krystal I got into plants and rescuing because of you. A little disheartened now because of a small mealybug infestation in my succulents...but hanging in there. The last plant I got was a small snake plant. I was absolutely infuriated because this was a beautiful plant with a great root system that had been neglected beyond description. It incenses me that stores leave so many of these beautiful plants in hydrophobic peat moss without the most basic care. Rescuing them just feels right ❤

My local plant store (very rural area) was just bought by someone new, and she had a whole room full of plants the elderly woman who owned it previously was planning on propagating before she passed. There was a snake plant that…. Wow it was overgrown lmao so I helped the new woman replant a few of them after dividing into new pots to let grow before she could sell them, and as a thank you she gave me one. She’s a healthy little girl! Even has a few babies of her own now!

Very often, plants marked down are being sold as "distressed plants". Original retail, 12.99 marked down to 4.99$. Take this plant to a register operated by a human being and simply ask this question... "would it be possible to get a discount on this dead plant?" Very often they will throw on additional price cuts. They can sell it to you for 2$ or they can throw it in the trash.

Over here they grow naturally on top of superficial tree roots, which means they have little soil and great drainage, plus they benefit from the shade of the tree... What I'm trying to say is, to care for plants just try to mimic their natural environment

Wait, snake plants are succulents? I have one from my granny's funeral in 2009, and it's very prolific (both shoots and cuttings). It's very tall, and after I buried my pet rats in the pot after they each passed, it took off even more. The pot is in its very deep and wide, so the innermost soil holds water for months. Like I only have to water it a couple times a year. But I can kill most succulents by looking at them. They always die a slow slow death.
