From Los Angeles here and moved to Dayton in April last year. I completely took myself for a surprise on this move. Coming from a big city like L.A. and then moving to Dayton - WOW! Just a bit alien! I like the fact that the city is between two bigger cities and also surrounded by other cities that you can spend a weekend in like Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis. Dayton isn't too bad.

@@MikeWallrealtor What brought me to Ohio, really... All arrows were pointing to Ohio when I decided to move out of California insofar as affordable housing. I sold my house near Palm Springs and laughed all the way to the bank. I got sick and tired of the taxes (being punished for being single). There was no way I was going to be able to pay off that house! I was never going to be able to hold the title, TRUE HOMEOWNER. Then I narrowed my searches down to Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton. Then down to Cincinnati and Dayton. My realtor and friend helped me find this cute little home in a nice little 'hood behind the former Good Samaritan Hospital. I paid the house off in full (33K to be exact - bit of a fixer upper) back in 2019. Now, the house is showing like a charm! It feels good to be able to say, "I ACTUALLY OWN A HOUSE". You are not a homeowner until your house is paid off! On top of that, the cost of living here... In California, a six figure income single person still will struggle to own a home. The cost of living in California didn't bother me as I grew up there. It was being a homeowner there sucks so bad!

Watching from Richmond District in San Francisco with curiosity about downtown Dayton. We’re in a doom loop, but I don’t own a car so no worries about broken windows. Saw an article that we should be worrying about Dayton’s downtown. I used to spend time in Kettering, OH during breaks from Miami University. Worked for Mike DeWine and lived in Upper Arlington in a roommate’s house that he inherited.

I can say about Dayton and surrounding close city's you can take your money from Jersey,New York,Cali, and more and take it to Dayton and live a luxurious life in a 200,000$ half mansion. An equivalent house where I live in a different state the same 200,000$ house in Dayton would cost 500,000 in my area. Same size if not less.

I hear you on the higher taxes but I can only imagine the homes outside of Montgomery county have a much higher value. The states average county tax rate was 1.49% or $3,725 in 2022 while the national was $2,475. Dayton really is a diamond in the rough, I live on Huffman and have seen a lot of positive change over the last few years in my visits before the move.

We used to have Parks and Race tracks and a Lake that was world class. The Fairgrounds ... THE COUNTY FAIR GROUNDS are GONE. all of the old theaters were arson ed by Dayton politicians. The Band Shell hasn't had a major show in 3 or 4 decades. Dayton Is a hole in the ground literally, with only exciting Geology I recently discovered. The Universities are plentiful but inept in the Humanity Level of education. They Teach CORP ORATE Means DEAD SPEAK, that is corporate dayton. The Right to Hire in Ohio was actually a law that allows firings without recourse. My state gets a 1.5 stars from me.
