This IS a German car after all.... I'm actually surprised this is a serviceable part! Ironically, most American cars are going "capless" so the operator doesn't need to deal with a gas cap anymore.... you know, because they are so complicated. You are all wrong Everyone knows the first step is to press the 'unlock' button on the keys. Its usually denoted by an open padlock or sometimes can be shown as a door icon. Its sometimes next to the 'boot release' button. Extra care must be taken as if you press the 'boot release' button this will not disengage the lock on the fuel cap. You'll generally notice this step has gone wrong when you can't gain access. This mistake means you have to go back to the start of step 1 and locate the keys. (This can be troublesome as sometimes when you put down the keys they get 'lost') this could add undue delay and even result in extra 'locksmith costs' Stay safe and always remember to wear a mask and safety goggles when opening cars that have been sat for more than 14 days as in this case its not always known the atmosphere make up inside the car which can damage health of the user Peace

He meant clock wise as in turn the cap with the wisdom of a clock. As a clock usually knows what time it is, so too should you know the precise speed, direction, and force needed to turn the fuel cap. He makes it look easy. The best way I’ve found to work on these types of repairs is hire six mechanics to stand around and make sure the car stays in park then have one guy work on it while the others stay there making sure the car doesn’t move

It's an incredibly dangerous object and suggesting that the driver could take the cap off on their own is insanely irresponsible. This must be done by a BMW certified technician using the appropriate scan tools. If the end user doesn't properly evacuate the pressure from the system they might hear a noise which can be traumatic and cause lawsuits for years to come. The end user should NEVER refuel their own car. Especially a BMW.

You forgot an important thing. You have to lubricate the fuel cap's threads, and the gasket if necessary, in order to keep dangerous fumes from leaking! But make sure you ONLY use the material that it was manufactured for like how you'd use oil for oil filter rings. In this case you must take a clean finger, put it in benzin/diesel and spread it around. Don't mind your skin drying out and itching like it's going to fall off, that's a normal indication of a job well done.
