According to extended lore, Q's reaction wasn't due to any fear on the part of the continuum to the Borg, they could destroy them all with a finger snap after all. It was due to the fact that Q got in big trouble with the continuum for sending the Enterprise to Borg space and alerting the Borg to humanities presence before they were ready. In response the continuum created a directive ordering all Q to leave the Borg alone. So, Q was basically trying to save himself from getting into more trouble.

I'm a little confused. Didn't Enterprise show that the Borg learned of humanity from one group of Borg that had time travelled back in First Contact and crash landed and was frozen in Antarctica? It was when they were defrosted by the scientists studying them and before they could be stopped by Archer that they sent a signal out in to space to alert the collective of their position? They even mentioned at the end that it would take something like 200 years for that signal to reach its destination. Though looking in to it in more detail and looking back at things chronologically, I guess this episode was made before that Enterprise retcon, so makes sense.

They could destroy with a finger snap, but they can't. That is too much direct 'interaction'.. and Q is already in enough trouble - according to lore - he folded time and space to stop another Q being hit with an asteroid - it hit earth, and his 'penance' was to watch over the planet?

They could at least be some kind of threat to the Q, it was never explained how and that mystery still remains to be solved. Sometimes when you get these submitted scripts with tangent plots, it's just to build drama and never meant to go anywhere or be developed. You can get winning mysteries, and some that just make no sense. But there have been many fan theories on why the aluarians can be contenders with the Q, and or why they seem to perceive cause and effect (note I didn't day time) in a way no other species does. The borg having assimilated the alaurians and this knowledge (not necessarily the ability until they are motivated to) is likely why the Q do not want to provoke the borg.

I think the best part about this entire clip is that it shows how much more mature q is, at least compared to his own son. I mean think about it, q was pretty immature in the next generation but through his own experiences as well as being mortal for a day he was humbled. Seeing his son act like a complete cocky little brat, using his powers just for fun and doesn't mind if people get killed in a brutal fashion or even worse assimilated shows just how immature he is. And q snapping at him shows how far q has come as a character. The Borg are no threat to the q collective, and they never will be, but they are a threat to the federation and q has a soft spot for them.

Even they can't do as they please with their powers Besides, the idea that a race of omnipotent beings that existed even before the beginning of time would be afraid of a group of cyborg space zombies is ridiculous to put it mildly. It's amazing Jeri doesn't hate Trek after her brilliant character was so often reduced to eye candy.
@LakituKoopa
2 жыл бұрын
well the reason is that she takes it like an adult and acts like one. Not like us millenial snowflakes that take everything as "offensive" and "sexist" or "discriminating", crying for "changes" and ruining everything for political correctness just because some of us get "uncomfortable". One thing we have to learn that there is no shame in "eye candy". Why the hell not? Createing problems where none are is a thing we really have to stop doing. Unbelievable that people from 20-30 years ago were more mature and developed than we are today... Besides, she wasn't "reduced" to pure eye candy, she still was a strong and intelligent character in the show playing a huge part in it and she kind of inspired me to the person I am today.

@@LakituKoopa I am one of those people from 20-30 years ago. The world is still transitioning from a sexist place. But 20-30 years ago we were also more conditioned to accept it and know our place. Also while many of us women cringed at the giant condom and heels Jeri was given as a costume instead of the standard uniform, we had no collective voice b4 the net. But the main thing I dislike is all the sexual innuendo written in around her character. It's not Trek.
@LakituKoopa
2 жыл бұрын
@@jaxr2958 I think you take it way too seriously. Yes, there was sexism but it was not that bad in the 90s as modern feminism tries to describe. You can actually thank them that instead of representing the rights of women they actually lower them by claiming 24/7 that men are "evil", "pigs" and "only rapists" with one thing in mind and that women are victims all the time and need to be put in cotton. From a public perception, women those days traded their strength, individuality and rights for a victim role just to fight for the things that were taken away by modern feminism. A fight for returning to status quo at best. Don't get me wrong, it is critical to fight against sexism and problems that concerns women but we can't look for problems where none exist or else it will hurt us more than actual help. As a girl myself I think we exagerated with the whole "sexism" thing. Besides, it was explained by the Doctor why Seven doesn't wear a standard uniform: Since she was Ex-Borg and turned back to human, this costume monitored her vitals and kept a balance between her regained human body and the remaining borg implants. And I think the writers kind of did a good job since you could see through the seasons how she developed and regained humanity instead putting her in some sort of romance scenario (just at the end of s7 she started dating). The same goes for Janeway, instead of making her some love interest she remained a badass captain to the end.

I would’ve loved to have seen Q jr make an appearance in the Picard series when Icheb was murdered. It would’ve been nice to see a bit of Continuum-level anger about that, seeing as how the 2 of them actually became friends. Not sure how to have worked it in, but, it would’ve been nice to see the call back. Maybe in season 2 when Q was featured; just have Q Jr pop in for a second for a scene and then as he is about to snap away, he turns and gives a legit condolence to Seven about their mutual friend.

I like a alternative extended lore someone posited over on reddit regarding the Continum's policy of non interaction with the Borg. The reason the Q were so intent on steering clear of the Borg is that the Borg were already aware of the Continum and the Q were worried that there might be even the most minute remote possibility of a Q accidentally getting themselves Assimilated one day. Every Q we have ever seen definitely suggests they are quite prone to distraction. The theory went beyond this episode though to even suggest that the Borg noted Q's fondness for humanity and Picard in particular and purposely assimilated him to try and provoke Q in to presenting themselves. Prior to Q's interaction with humanity and Picard, the Borg had never had any real opportunity to bait a Q in to making an appearance. The reddit theory suggested that it was only the Enterprise/Rikers fast recovery of Picard that prevented this scenario from playing out.
