That is not a fair statement. Every individual is different. He may have been overtrained in high school, or not used to the training methods at the university. If a kid doesn't lift weights in high school, they have to adjust to lifting and training in college. And a lot of freshman get injured. I tell all of my graduating seniors to expect an injury, because it is harder to recover from mentally when you are trying to prove yourself at that level

Thank you for your comment and perspective. I appreciate it. As a HS and College coach I hav ecome to believe that success is rarely linear for most athletes. At the college level, it is best to assume you will have hardship on the way to winning. 99.9% of college track athletes will struggle before winning much of anything on a national scale. And having the mental fortitude is key to survive that journey. I believe we are echoing a lot of the same sentiments. But I used a personal example in an attempt to make it more tangible.
