This so I can hook it up to an emulator/MiSTer and have keys match the original system, without having to remember/look up which modern key matches the Atari key I want to press. Oh and I guess redundancy wouldn't hurt: there's many Atari keyboards, maybe have all of the keys of each even if they are duplicates between models (ie: help/start/select/option in the 400/800/XE and F keys in the ST, they could use the same keycodes) I really want that strip of brushed metal keys in the 800 though, never saw anything like that ever again.

I strongly recommend the C64 game Law of the West. You play a sherrif in a wild west town and have to keep the peace. The C64 was an amazing cRPG system, and not only Ultima - Bard's Tale I-III (and an actual construction kit to make your own version!), Phantasie I-III, Legacy of the Ancients; early gems like Telengard or Temple of Apshai. Almost all of the 80s classics were ported to C64. But, best of all, were the SSI Gold Box games like Pools of Radiance. SSI was kinda like the Avalon Hill of computer games at the time, making bizarrely complicated games with these highly limited computers. I also remember games like Defender of the Crown, which blew me away with its graphics at the time. Seven Cities of Gold was a game I remember spending a lot of time in. The platformer of Conan was fun, if frustrating. There were weird simulation games like President Elect. The fact that folks are STILL making C64 games today is a testimonial to its widespread fanbase. Thanks for the nostalgia, TechDweeb! Edit: Reading other comments made me even more nostalgic for games I nearly forgotten from the whole Summer/Winter Games EA stuff to Usagi Yojimbo... I used to sail the high seas with me eyepatch back in the day, so I had a lot of games... a lot of long lost floppies... I used to run a BBS when I was 11-13ish.

She didn't play card or board games but to this day she raves about the amazing game jumpman from the comadore 64. If memory serves me correctly there was Ana amazing game called firestorm or fire... something... basically blew my little mind when I saw it, one of the first concepts of homing rockets where you controlled the rocket... honestly from memory that was better than playing the game itself. I really, really like the C64's SID chip. Great music on that thing, all curated nicely in the High Voltage SID Collection. I particularly like songs by Goto80. About the keyboard though, the keycaps are available in several colors. They're called "AF SA" profile keycaps, and this particular brand is recognizable by the font and the way the period is misaligned on the "> ." key. They're a clone of the MG Monster / MG Ember premium sets, but IMO they're better than the original, while also being a fraction of the price.

The physics of Stunt Car Racer on C64 is actually nuts. If you watch a video where it runs on the SuperCPU it becomes even more obvious how great it is. I think I read somewhere that it's a direct port port of the engine running in the Amiga version, which still sounds insane to me if it's true. Back then I turned a cracked joystick and a car dashboard style toy into a wheel controller of sort to b be usable with this game on the C64 :)

So I've done a lot of troubleshooting and trial and error. I mapped my retropad binds to my Gamesir G8+ rather than having it default to it, cleared all hotkeys, and have come to the conclusion that no matter what, In Quick Menu - Controls - whatever "LEFT" is bound/assigned to whether it's Up or R1 or any button, it pauses the game. No matter what. So when you launch, say Turrican, it will pause as soon as you press left and the only button that will UnPause it, is FIRE. 1. Is this recreatable for anyone else? Surprisingly, ON PORT 2 CONTROLS in Quick Menu - Controls with Device Type left on RETRO PAD, I can assign the actual DPAD/HAT LEFT to R or anything else, and it allows me to play and left still works fine. But if the LEFT option on the list that pips up is assigned to ANYTHING, that button will pause the game. PORT 1 CONTROLS stay how they are. With D pad mapped as it should be and device type left as RETRO PAD. Confirmed now that changing to JOYSTICK changes nothing for either PORT 1 or 2 2. Does this track for anyone else? I can not figure out what this is. I think it's some kind of mix-up between Port 1 and Port 2 controls getting crossed, maybe? There's not much online besides a post about checking a log file bit I can't find Input = Pause to delete in the script lines. How can this be fixed?? From what I have gathered, there is some kind of correlation between PORT 1 & PORT 2 but the Controls for port 2 just need to be changed from DPAD LEFT (and sometimes DOWN on some games like UFO) to any other binding, and that in turn makes the binds in PORT 1 work as they should.

I would suggest the following games: Wizball (stick with it, its an amazing game), Uridium, Paradroid, Creatures, Last Ninja ( 2,3), Commando, Platoon, and Pirates. I spent too many hours in the 80's during my early to late teenage years addicted to so many games during the 80's on this machine, and in the U.K. it was rare to have a C64 as most of the kids had a ZX Spectrum.

I grew up on the C64. Personal favorites include: Raid on Bungeling Bay: a surprisingly deep top-down helicopter action game. There’s an interesting story about how it inspired the Sim City franchise. I think you’ll love it, Mr Dweeb Wasteland - an absolute classic, basically became Fallout due to IP issues and of course is the granddaddy of the new Wasteland games Impossible Mission 1 and 2 - maybe the biggest action adventure games for the platform at the time? At least in my house Pitstop 2 - another deceptively deep action game with a pitstop mini game that’s really the most interesting part of it Nemesis the Warlock - based on a British comic book, this one gave me nightmares as a kid. Action platformer with a really satisfying sword swinging animation. Amazing opening music by Rob Hubbard Skate or Die - Speaking of Rob Hubbard. This is actually like 5 skating games in one California Games - great set of mini games here too Raid Over Moscow - really difficult sci fi game. I couldn’t even get out of the hangar as a kid but I was fascinated with it The Last Ninja - action adventure with outstanding music

I've got the C64 8Bitdo keyboard because my C64 was my first computer ever. I like it. My wife hates it because of the noise that it makes when typing. If you want a quiet keyboard, don't by it. If you don't mind the noise, it's a good keyboard.

Oof I was born in ‘84. The Commodore 64 was my first personal computer experience. Bruce Lee, MULE, and Gateway to Apshai were my favorites.

A limit of the C64 style keyboard is the lack of the PETSCII characters in the keycaps: those would be real advantage of that keyboard...

I have the C64 keyboard. It is great! Makes work more enjoyable. Reminds me of my first gaming system... The C64. Long live Jumpman!

Had a c64 growing up, favourite game... Giana sisters! To the point I have an Android version on my phone since... Forever! Really not fun to play with on screen controls, but it must stay there, I don't even know why... And my c64 copy on cassette I had obtained it through... Duplication of my friend's original using one of those double deck cassette players that were meant to copy audio tapes, did a lot of this back then....... Seems like 2 centuries old tech now, and still love the memories I have of it

I'll play C64 on my Zazzbitty at some point... After I finish Final Fantasy 6 for the first time... and snap out of my awe of it... ANYWAY please do continue, I'll be paying attention.

Me and my best friend wasted so many hours playing Raid Over Moscow. Little Computer People is really interesting. "Fun"... Maybe not, but interesting.

Barbarian was on of my favorites back in the day. Slicing heads off never felt so good before or since. Ultima 2 and 3 was one of the first RPGs that I finished multiple times. Great pulls TD. Any game from the Jumpman series is a great play on C64. There are like 3 or 4 of them.

Dear Dweeeeeeeeeeeeeb, do you know a cheap USB alternative for those old Competition PRO joysticks? I haven't found USB joysticks in that style.

So is it good. That keyboard. I got a expensive corsair. Pretty good. Has a usb port. They should of loaded it up with usb's. since it's close. Got the mouse connected to the keyboard. I think there is a numlock attachment keyboard. Thanks there is a volume nob. needs media key's. suppose there is software to do custom commands. I kinda want to get the joystick. nice size. They should of made it multi platform. idk maybe to the replacement parts. it's probably good as is.

That's gotta be the worst joystick and buttons (super) that I have ever seen in my entire life 😲 Look at the horrible wobblyness of the joystick and sheer distance of travel in both the buttons and stick! YUK! Keyboard might be cool though :-) shame ya can't save money by buying it without the awful joystick n super buttons.

Just picked up this keyboard this week. Was my first computer. Had a ton of fun waiting on disks to load, die quickly, and then wait for everything to load again. I played a lot of Wizards of Wor, Jumpman, Arachnophobia, Sammy Lightfoot and lots of 2600 ports.

If you wanted to see the pinnacle of technical achievement in terms of graphics, sound and speed there is nothing to touch Mayhem in Monsterland. For the c64 it will never be bettered. It very occasionally looks like a hybrid of an NES/SNES title... Really.

I can really recommend Sam's Journey. It's a modern C64 game on disk or cartridge - it's still for sale I think. I also bought it for my Famicom toploader. The music, graphics and gameplay are awesome!

Played Wasteland on C64 , a great under rated RPG. Fallout way before it was even a thing. Glad they brought it back & are making a new version. Helps that fallout is currently so popular.
