@@WestfieldsBassnasty honestly they run the full spectum, low end 50 buck and on the high end $1200 (or more). this one likely ran around $600-1.2k range if its new and he didnt get a deal for it being second hand, i only know because ive wanted one for a awhile

Remembered the effort we had to put in to get my anvil in place, we had to do some strap contraption just to get it into the trailer, partly because the old owner thought it would be a good idea to lacquer it in John Deere green.

Good to see you stepping up your tooling, Eli, and you did a good job setting up the new anvil. If you’re going to be spending much time building blades, you’re probably going to want a decent 2” x 72” belt grinder. Lots of folks build their own, but I’d suggest taking a look at the AmeriBrade. They are workhorses, and you get a very capable machine at a very reasonable price, compared with the rest of the market.

Hey Eli, don’t beat yourself up with your forging ability. You are new to the craft, already fairly skilled, and made some very pretty and practical tongs. They look better than my first set. Thank you for being the first inspiration for me making weapons and stuff and starting me down the path of shop classes, blacksmithing, and general fun back in 2015.

Kens custom iron makes some great tong blanks. Also if your anvil is to loud siliconing it down has worked great for me

Psssst hey Eli. Those tongs are really good. Way better than my fist tongs. You should make some hand tools like a couple punches or a drift. Then you won’t have to drill your holes, you can do it ALL at the forge.

Loving the set up so far, and don't beat yourself up; your tongs were much better than my first attempt. A little advise though. Use a lighter hammer and try different swinging techniques. Good technique with a lighter hammer is less tiresome and more metal is moved quicker.
