He is 100% accurate. I was a total nightmare for my recruiter and it was because I made all of these mistakes. They will turn you away if you are too high maintenance. You can always hold put for the job you want. But don't badger your recruiter and inundate them with questions. Do your research. Ask Reddit. Ask other solders. The recruiter will guide you. But don't expect them to hold your hand.

Goodluck! Basic is super easy now so here are some tips! 1. PT test isn’t valid until 2022 March so it will depend on your company on what you have to pass 2. VOLUNTEER but don’t not let other people not have a chance. My DS learned everyone’s names regardless so show that you are a team player 3. SPEAK UP WHEN GETTING BOOTS! Holy cow 🐄 the boot people are crazy rude but speak up so you are not suffering at basic. The boots suck regardless. 4. DO NOT GO TO SICK CALL IF YOU LIED AT MEPS! This is a big one, they literally sent anyone home that went to sick call for anything and they dug through their records while they were there. If you lied about anything you got sent home.

Currently getting my doctor clearance letters from them to give to MEPS when I go for the first time, recruiters said this is the best way to save time - because they will find out either way and the process will get longer. The legal stuff, whatever I was honest about it. Stuff happened 9-15 years ago. Was honest because I don’t want anything hanging over my head when I’m in. TL;DR; The asthma advice in this video is bad advice. If it's on your medical record, bring it up. Asthma before 13-bring it up, it's not disqualifying. 13 and older, it's disqualifying and you can probably seek a waiver with at least coin-toss odds as long as you haven't had any issues in the past 7 years. If you have anything on your medical record suggesting you have asthma (inhaler prescription or diagnosis) at the age of 13 or after, it is a permanently disqualifying condition that requires a waiver. If it's BEFORE the age of 13, disclose it anyway, it will not be disqualifying. If you do not disclose this, and you are caught later, say you get sick in basic, or at your duty station, and they pull your medical records (they can, and they will-do not believe your recruiter when they say you are protected by HIPAA-you waived your HIPAA rights by joining) this will at best be an entry-level separation during basic, or later, administrative discharge, or at worst, a fraudulent enlistment. Previously, the DoD official instruction for asthma during enlistment allowed for asthma after the 13th birthday provided a few stipulations including, not using any medication in the past 3 years to treat it, a pulmonary function test showing no symptoms of asthma, and no symptoms or associated hospitalizations in the past 3 years. This has changed since at least 2018: DoDI 6130.03-V1, March 30, 2018 SECTION 5: DISQUALIFYING CONDITIONS 18 5.10. LUNGS, CHEST WALL, PLEURA, AND MEDIASTINUM. e. History of airway hyper responsiveness including asthma, reactive airway disease, exercise-induced bronchospasm or asthmatic bronchitis, after the 13th birthday. (1) Symptoms suggestive of airway hyper responsiveness include but are not limited to cough, wheeze, chest tightness, dyspnea or functional exercise limitations after the 13th birthday. (2) History of prescription or use of medication (including but not limited to inhaled or oral corticosteroids, leukotriene receptor antagonists, or any beta agonists) for airway hyper responsiveness after the 13th birthday. Note that the above would permanently disqualify an applicant who has any mention of asthma on their medical record at the age of 13 or older. Applicants may be able to seek a waiver, and this is granted on a case-by-case basis, and I have heard of many people getting them, and many more people being denied. One study which I was unable to track back down-for the Airfoce-shows a 60% rate of asthma waivers being granted, but take that with a grain of salt, as I can't find the source for that anymore. This will vary by branch (army, navy, etc.), service (guard, reserve, active), recruiting needs, the individual's medical history, and I've heard as well, but can't verify, their ASVAB score and MOS/job being sought. The reason recruiters don't want you to disclose is that you'll have to give your whole medical history over to MEPS, and there may be other medical issues in there that may require a waiver, and they will see all of this. Now, keep in mind you may not be authorized to seek a waiver, even if your record is pretty suggestive of someone who never even had asthma. Every case when dealing with MEPS is different, but generally, your recruiter, if they're doing their job, will tell you to get a pulmonary function test (maybe also a methacholine challenge test), and any pharmacy records going back SEVEN years, and to pull your medical records and bring them with your enlistment packet. If you haven't had any issues or prescriptions in the last 7 years, your odds are okay. Your recruiter will then send all this to MEPS. Sometimes they will send just the packet to MEPS, in this case you will be PDQ'd and MEPS will either suggest a waiver, or not. If your recruiter sent your medical files with your packet, MEPS will either PDQ and again, suggest a waiver or not, or you'll be cleared to go to MEPS. At this point, some MEPS stations have the facilities to do a PFT on site, others will send you out for a consult with a pulmonologist they trust-even if a recent PFT was included with your packet. For those with the PFT on site, they may clear you right there. For those with a consult, you may be cleared with a good PFT. In all cases, MEPS can determine whether or not you can apply for a waiver from your branches waiver authority at any of the above steps-or they may clear you at any of them. If you MEPS suggests a waiver, you get back with your recruiter, put your medial documents in order, along with any additional supporting information you can gather. Statements from family members who managed your medical needs on your behalf when you were younger stating mitigating factors such as allergies, in addition to notes, (such as, prescriptions were only obtained as a precaution/were required by school, etc.) activities you take part in that may show you have no symptoms, a note on official letterhead from the doctor that diagnosed you, etc. Though your waiver authority won't take any one piece of supporting evidence on it's face, why should they believe you when you say you only filled the prescription, never used it, but the larger the body of evidence in your favor, the better. You may still have your waiver denied, but you can try other branches. Talk to your recruiter, don't let them pressure you into omitting relevant medical history. In some cases, such as the Guard, for some medical issues, you can apply in multiple states as the waiver authority required may only be state-level. Try with different branches, if the Army turns you down, try the Navy, but keep in mind, a waiver denial from active Army will likely disqualify a waiver for the Reserves or Guard, and remember that MEPS is not the one granting you the Waiver, the branch/service is, but MEPS *CAN* deny authorization to even seek a waiver.

Depends what you want to do really. I'll just say that in the ARMY you can walk in to a Recruiters with one specific MOS in mind, and sign a Contract for [X] amount of years as that specific MOS. In the Marines it is more or less a coin toss as to where you'll end up. You'd choose a contract in a general field that includes an MOS that you'd like (based on your ASVAB scores of course), and pray to the gods you end up there, and in that MOS. If not, than it's down to where they need bodies the most.

Old grunt here. If you don't have a good work ethic, love the flag, what it stands for, want to go to school after, dont get Married, before during or after, dont like travel, or hate politics, dont join, stay home with mommy an daddy an hide in the basement with your chronic an video games. Women go in to marry up or sleep their way thru the ranks while they are getting a body count bigger than a division. Other than that stay low, never volunteer, which your 6 an your buddies, never eat MRE's without a ton of water. An all officers are egotistical shitbirds. Oh yea if you like excitement stay out of combat arms. It's so boring you'll die of boredom. Lol
