Awesome place to fly. I still have 3 of my epp wing warrior brand wings from almost 20 years ago. They still have the old style FM crystal receivers in them along with esc"s for nicad batteries and brushed motors. I have been thinking of knocking the dust off of them and making them work with a lipo and a voltage alarm

Wow!!! Now that’s old school hahah. You should totally get them out and put a brushless motor and some lipo batteries on them and let them tear up the sky again!! Love flying wings!

@@UngluedModeler 100% agreed! Converting would be dead easy. I'd retire the FM receiver even if I had the radio and crystal too. I've been using a Futaba 9C but after several unexplained no control crashes replaced the module in the back for a 2.4 gig FrSky one and their receivers which for me have been absolutely reliable and the receivers are very cheap by comparison too. You can (if you want) get a conversion kit that will fit any radio from FrSky that Hobbyking did and hopefully still do sell. You get the frequency hopping so pretty much nothing can interfere and you can set all controls to do anything you want in case of loss of signal so no models screaming away at full throttle into the distance if things somehow do go wrong.

I've got one, I talked a flying buddy into having a bit of cheap but destructive fun and got us one each. I bought us both the same small motor and ran them on 1,300 mah 3S. I let him choose his own servos while with those BIG control surfaces and the intended insane type twisting and turning to try and knock each other out of the sky I went with a separate 5 amp BEC and high torque metal gear servos. We had a lot of fun like that and I won every time though on one he wound up completely losing any sort of control when my prop chopped one of his battery wires and it wound up in a tree but mine, while still flying I could see it flex massively when I pulled up even a little so landed her as gently as I could and it was split down the middle similar to yours but just hanging on by the last of the EPP. Eventually we both wound up going more power and getting them really whizzing about. Love that Shoe Goo, it sticks to pretty much anything like crazy and allows for some flex which can be really useful in a lot of situations. I wound up slitting the foam in areas that needed reinforcing by then slipping 3mm X 1mm strips of carbon fibre in the slits then running along that with thin CA which strengthened it fine. On that leading edge I just used a strip of fiberglass reinforced tape to help prevent tears in the foam there and maybe improve the shape of that edge a little too. That's a real shame they don't sell them anymore, they are great cheep fun. Glad you got one and are enjoying it at least.

Haha yeah they’re great! Cool story about you and your buddy flying them! And yes it’s too bad they’re gone. Maybe they’ll bring them back one day 🤷♂️

@@UngluedModeler Let's hope so, the AXNs too. While you've got an intact one it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to measure all dimensions and any relevant info and store that info somewhere as these would be very easy to make yourself. Actually, for just outright fun flying you could use EPO maybe and also reduce those huge control surfaces that are great for actual combat type flying and taper down to something about half the depth of the ones on these and end up with a better, less twitchy model. I'd always leave the servos on top of the wing though for a flat belly lander but, these would be very easy to replicate using EPP, EPO or even probably cardboard, I'm not keen on EPS but it could be used for a super light and gentle slow flying floaty one.
