Brilliant lesson Chris. A real light bulb moment...for me at least. You've effectively shown that the often repeated mantra of 'don't stand up in the shot' should actually be 'don't stand up in the shot TOO EARLY'.

Subbed out of respect for an actual teaching pro. I learned as a youngster from a man who spent a lot of time around Ben Hogan. I didn’t hit a golf ball for the first 3 lessons. When I did it was hitting half shots as clean and far as possible. Now I’m just a washed up 3hdcp weekend warrior with a terrible short game 😅

Hallelujah Chris!! As a senior hacker(picked up club late in life)in midwest(short golfing season) that's read thousands of articles and watched countless hrs. of videos....this is the greatest "ahaa" golf tip I've ever come across! I literally shouted..."That's my swing, that's why my feet do what they do, that's why I'm always trying to manipulate the club with my hands to make contact and square the club face, that's why I slice one shot and pull the next!" I'm jumping on those drills....any further advice on how to eradicate those exact old muscle memories? Final comment...great athletes don't necessarily make good coaches....but you sir, are a great communicator and teacher! Thank you!

I live in Indiana and play every month not everyday. This is a great video on that we totally agree.

Thanks Dale really glad the video helped, never east to make a change, but that bottle drill is one of my favourites so take that to the range as it will be really good for the feedback that you need

It's like you followed me around for my round this morning... knew something was off with the shoulders turning too much - this explains it perfectly!

Thank you!! That takes care of the irons…but what about the driver…do you have a video of why we do the same thing with the driver? Is the weight shut still the same?
@ChrisRyanGolf

Yeah this is pretty much the same with driver, possible a little less lateral shift, but apart from that it’s the same

Chris great lesson. Is the shift and then turn (extension) a single move or two separate moves?
@ChrisRyanGolf
Ай бұрын
Great question, the shift starts first in most swings, then the rotation followed by the extension, but how they blend is the skill, tough to time in such a short space of time too

What about posting with the lead leg. Its like putting on the brakes and it prevents spinnung out with the hips. Doesnt that aid with the extension?
@daviddobrydnio1746

Your video focused on a breakdown of the motions of the swing and the misconception of turning. But without integrating the posting with the lead leg standing up with extension wont manifest itself i think.

No sliding necessary, just learn how to use the brakes on both sides of you correctly. Trail brake keeps you from over swinging in the takeaway and if done correctly it will push you into the target side brake in one fluid motion. Very few understand the braking system in the golf motion and that is a fact, or if they do they don’t explain it.
@ChrisRyanGolf

Is that not a completely different topic though? This video was about the rotation and flexion/extension of the body
@Wooduck

@@ChrisRyanGolf probably was Ryan but if you know what the brakes are all about you will do as you expressed in the video. Like your stuff and watch most of your material which verifies the conclusion I have discovered the past few weeks. Thanks

@@Wooduck”Shifting” down the target line is a thing. What do you think Scotties footwork allows him to do?
@Wooduck
Ай бұрын
@@GotoyourhomeBall I never said shifting I said sliding which is totally different. Scotty has footwork that he learned as a kid I would suppose that allowed him to get to his lead side. His right leg is drafting behind his lead leg in transition which creates a cross lateral brake necessary to swing against for speed and power. His footwork also prevents him from spinning out or opening the lead shoulder too soon which is the problem most amateur players experience because they don’t know about the braking system on either side of them. If used correctly and you understand balance and what it takes to stay in balanced in the golf motion, you can transition from the trail brake to the front brake in a smooth none stoping motion which most pros do.
