White is actually poor at absorbing light and reflects it, or if thin enough a lot of light comes through the tiny holes. Both these effects can help you see better since white reflects light better than most other normal colors (as in materials not designed specifically for reflecting light

@tomnoyb8301

White is much cooler in the hot sun. Since emission and absorption are symmetric, white is also warmer at night, because it radiates less heat. That's one reason white attracts fewer mosquitoes, because mosquitoes use infrared to detect prey, so mosquitoes gravitate toward the person with dark clothing. Yes white shows more dirt, but dark is just as dirty; it's just harder to tell.
@martinerhard8447
2 жыл бұрын
wait mosquitos dont use infrared to detect prey and also colors like khaki dont attract them they have multiple sensory organs detecting prey in different ways and yes some colors have a slight effect like red white colors wont help in a significant way to radiate less heat from your body though Really the main issue I see is that when you dont want to stick out (regular backpacking) you do with white and also when you do want to stick out more (like winter backpacking) you dont. And white is generally worse for UV resistance on different materials

Most of us know exactly what's in our pack and it's not that much......... I can find it by feel I don't need to see it. Here's what's in my backpack from the bottom up: Inside a packliner...... Quilt in stuffsak Inflatable pad Mesh bag clothes sack Outside the packliner: Shelter Raingear Foodbag Cook kit on side of food bag. Fleece or puffy on top IF... It's cold enough to need to put on when stop. There is also often a single ziplock bag with a anker battery, carkey, money/id. That's it, that's all that's inside my pack. In the Sierra you can substitute bear can for the food bag
