Amazing work! It's great to see someone this strong in traditional skills in a time where digital illustration is the easier choice of medium.

Yes yes yes. I love your comments about the often overlooked little visuals like scratches and the nature of lighting on metal. Wonderful! I also love the act of painting feeling the medium through the brush and having a physical piece afterwards. Thank you for sharing!

Donato is a fantastic draftsman and the nicest guy. Met him at a convention a couple years ago. It looks like the DVD is going to rock, gotta get it. I paint digitally now, but looking at this demo makes my hands itch to get my brushes out and assemble my dusty ol' easel. Thanks for the demo!!!

you chose an excellent figure for your illustration. her eyes are amazing and her features are symetrical. awesome picture. as though you took a live 3D subject made it into a 2D illustration then made the illustration become real again. loved it.

The other thing that is truly special about this tutorial is that this is an artist that shares so much....and $60.00 is nothing for what he offers...truly most generous. I can name several DVD's that I have bought of some artists who basically just sit there and paint...and offer NOTHING in the way of helpful info...NOTHING...and they have the gall to charge money for that...this man is generous and shares alot of excellent info..and is in his everyday studio...you see it for real. Awesome!!

jaw dropping incredible. I have been commissioned to do an oil painting and i haven't picked up oils in years. so im youtubing paintings and techniques to kind of get myself back into gear... and i get tree after rose after landscape after blaaaaahhhhhhhhh then i come across this... which is every essence of my passion put into oils... I am absolutely blown away and SO INCREDIBLY INSPIRED that I cannot wait to pick up these oils and go to work... I cannot thank you enough.

WOW WOW WOW! Great work and thanks for the videoing the process. I was wondering, were you working on Masonite or was it Press Board? Have you ever worked with the computer and if so how were the results in comparison? Such rich work makes for a one of a kind object that is worth cherishing. Digital art falls short on that point. But I guess that's what limited printings are for. Wonderful work.

I got this and it's AMAZING! Not rly my kinda style tbh but these r 5 hours of perfect quality almost "in person" proces of creating amazing art.If you expect to see "this is how you draw hands and that's how u draw legs" kind of tutorial it may not come to your expectations. If you wanna see how a real master does all the magic and if u want the magic devided into easy steps and all the mystery off and away- this is for you! A giant push of encourigement!

Great demonstration and what a stunning realistic painting! I see this is an oil painting work but would you(or anyone else) be kind to tell me what was the support(like, canvas or kent paper etc) you used in this demo? Thank you in advance.
@xenophanesiamnot

My guess is either paper toned with some brown-toned gesso, or more likely, a piece of hardboard sanded a bit and then sealed with clear gesso. Hardboard is great to paint on because it already has a mid value brown color.

Also, where can I find a drafting board with one of those stick things that you're using to keep your hand steady? I use an easel, and sometimes use an old broom stick to keep my wrist still, but this looks better.
