Thank you for this. It brought back memories of the 70s. I saw the premier of The Exorcist at the Gaumont when I was sweet sixteen. The 70s Doncaster Council banned the rocky horror picture show for promoting degeneracy (!) so i had to ride my motorbike to Sheffield to see it. I saw every prog rock band i can name at Top Rank, now sadly gone. Doncaster Literature Festival was excellent, thanks to Doncaster Library Services. There was a downward spiral after Donnygate. I wish my old hometown (City) well.

Tuesday, Fri and Saturday are market days in Doncaster but compared to what Doncaster used to be like it's gone really downhill , I've lived in the Doncaster area all my life and only go into the town centre when I really have to really can't understand it getting a 'City' status

I revisited my home town last year and was so disappointed. What a rundown mess. Fantastic Georgian buildings going to rack and ruin, drunks sitting outside a pub and shouting. Shame on you Donny Council. Where is your pride?

I was in Doncaster only last weekend and I thought it wasnt half as bad as I had been led to believe. Though its passed its best since the local industries closed down and there are many parts of the City where the shops are closed. However, there are other parts that are busy and vibrant and the people are very friendly.

Doncaster in 90s was amazing for its nightlife and coaches would put trips on to come visit. Council put all their money and effort into the nightlife and let the rest of the town slowly rot away. Now in modern times, shopping is dying and younger kids are not drinking like their previous generations did so the pub side is also suffering. Wool market has been developed for both families and drinkers and money is being piled into the races side of the city. Like most city centres, it's dying on its arse.

You didn't really get into Doncaster town proper untill halfway through and I don't think the market is open everyday. A lot of money has been spent in the City as a whole including a theatre, museum, cinema, university and a lot of the market has been redeveloped into Cosmopolitan eatery's and bars all mostly missed in this video. However, it has gone down the nick a bit but hasn't every town because of changing habits in shopping and the way town centers are used.

I used to live there in the 90's god it's gone down hill, used to be the dumping ground for our Boat brethren. I think the pink and purple place used to be a Barclays. It wasn't great but way better than now, Mom grew up in Arksey remembers going to huge Markets there, anything and everything. Sad to see how way down it's gone!

The car park where you started used to have the gaumont cinema. In the 1960s the Beatles played there and their contemporaries. Great cinema and theatre.
