Thank you very much for this! Showing my 10-year old son that this was the first computer game daddy played roughly 36 years ago!! 😂

Got this back in 1982. It was a decent port. Just wished it had more animation. Donkey Kong just stands there like he is constipated.

Yes you are correct. I know that to be true because I got it on TI-99 about a year or so after others had it on Atari 2600. Much better version that's for certain. Atari 800 and Colecovision had animation for the gorilla but at least this had all 4 levels.

This version is pretty good despite lacking the intro and outro screen as well as lacking those intermission screens,it sadly does lack many animations and music tunes and the graphics are slightly simplified but atleast it does have all stages and all anemies in it albeit in american order thus making it more challanging but still,,,

@@johneygd This seems true of most Atarisoft ports to other systems. It's almost as if Atari deliberately made inferior versions for those other systems to make their own 8 bit line look better in comparison to all those others.

This actually a good version. I really like the Sound effects. But, what’s with donkey Kong he doesn’t move, he‘s like a Statue.

One of the few games that looked better on the TI99 vs C64....maybe

I wished I had this for my TI back in 1982. Pretty good port. I think the TI could do better, however. The Coleco port was very good and the TI shares the same graphics and sound as the Coleco. I would love to see someone update this for a 32K TI.

Colecovision port had animation for the gorilla and had better character graphics. Unfortunately it only had 3 levels instead of 4 which was also bad on Nintendos part for the Famicom and NES for doing the same. I feel much more comfortable with the controls on the TI994a version. Maybe they feel better because it’s the version I had back in the day. My next door neighbors had Colecovision. We would go back and forth to each other’s houses and play both versions.

I'm standing by the point that Texas Instruments computers are even better hardware-wise than 8-bit Atari consoles.

This version was faithful to the arcade version in ways that even Nintendo's home version wasn't The order that the stages appeared and the inclusion of the "pie factory". The scoring system The placement of the first hammer The extra life at 7000 pts. (Instead of 20000)

I didn't know the TI version had all 4 levels. Also, I noticed the 3rd level doesn't have those bouncing spring things, which is one of the hardest things about that level.

Yes I forget it didn't have the bouncing springs. Maybe because I also had the NES version years later. The NES version did not include pie factories. I changed that with a hack which adds it when I play it on my custom built arcade when I use Emuelec as a frontend. Wish I could play TI-99 games on it.

That statued donkeykong makes this version look less intimidating, especially since statued donkeykong cannot throw spring at mario either too🤣

Awesome. If the gaming technology would be any more primitive, you wouldn't be able to recognize Mario's character/face. It's JUST at the edge at the birth of the figure.

The Atari 8-bit version was better. But this version does one thing better than that's proper coloured umbrellas etc on the girder stage.

While this version of donkeykong isn’t bad BUT it’s sad that theres no intro & outro screen, also the sprotes aren’t anomated, sure animated sprites would,ve take up more memory space BUT atari could,ve just flip certain sprites back & forth to fake animated sprites without sacrifying extra memory space, what a missed oppertunity from atari🥲
