Are those her sisters backing her up? I remember seeing a clip of her on Dinah Shore's show a few years earlier, and two of her sisters, whom she introduced to the audience, were performing with her as background vocalists.

She was referring to woman in a biblical sense. Read about it, you'll understand the song better.
@christopherblackwell8717

@@musicmusic65 that's how I understood it too. This was the song that she was performing when the Adam & Steve wisecrack was said allegedly. This happened when the guys were drowning the girls out singing the lyrics during audience participation. The lyrics do say " God he made woman God he made a man.; Knew just what he wanted in his master plan". Gods master plan biblically is Man and Woman becoming one etc. That's what kept popping up during my research. That's what I felt she was saying with this song to her Gay audience at the time. I could be wrong but whatever it is I still love her regardless. She was a musical pioneer who deserves our respect.

My only issue with the lyric is how she advocates men being in control of women. It makes the hair go up on the back of my neck. Very 1950's, very conformist considering her personal journey at this moment - and I don't know that she is drawing on the Taming of the Shrew idea of a woman winning by losing, by being any less than who and what she is.

Yeah, they lyrics of this song suck and it's really disappointing she's advocating for that bullshit considering other songs she's made like Bad Girls and She Works Hard For The Money which are the polar opposite when it comes to the message.

If a mere comment I wrote spoiled your enjoyment of the song, you should do some introspection and consider that it might be a 'you' issue. You sound like those annoying fanboys who are to stupid to be a fan of someone as well as being able to criticize them.

Leftatalbuquerque, Yes I remember when this came out balking at the lyrics, such Stepford wives evocation and I say that as a man. The live performance I feel was clearly trying to dial back the conservative thinking a bit, great performance despite the sledgehammer sentiment.

This is the song that Donna said " God made Adam and Eve , not Adam and Steve " and got in trouble with her many Gay fans. It's the polar opposite of She Works Hard for the Money.

A funky tune that showed Donna's vocal versatility but how politically incorrect are those lyrics!! She would have been ripped apart if she were alive and singing that today. A good example of something being so good but at the same time...so bad. :)
