I was sitting in a local restaurant & this played. I completely broke down. I went to the car leaving my husband. He packed up our food. I lost my mom to leukemia in 1986 and upon hearing that song- it unlocked a memory of me spinning on the carpet while my mom played this record. This was right before she passed. So strange how music can unlock such a beautiful memory. ❤

Even though they believe that I am going to burn in hell forever, I will always love Donnie and Marie. They meant so much to me when I was growing up. They offered a safe, but cheesy, space in a confusing world. This song in particular, for me, is peak D&M. I was way too excited when Donnie showed up on The Masked Singer and believe he should have won. And I still smile when I see Marie on commercials. Good memories

I was 13 years old in 1976 when this song was out .I loved it and other songs like the other side of the mountain; and I'm leaving it up to you: which was Marie's first performance on stage with Donny and as you no the rest is history. They did years of the Donny and Marie Shows .like sonny and Cher and the Jackson 5 who where earlier doing shows then the Osmands?. It was the in thing in the 60s and 70s with families singing on stage; or couples. but as years fly in and they get older like there then fans get married and have children as you no some have made it and done well while others are known but not as famous as they use to. So like others like Judy Garland exetra L.A.S Vegas is the place to start over again. but thankfully people there no these singers and enjoy going back down memory lane again.😊💖🙏AS They Say theres always a light at the end of the 🌈🌈🌈🌟🌠🌞🎸💖👏👏👏👏👍🙏

Marie was a classy, tastefully fashionable young lady back then, compared to today's young women who opt for fashions that show too much skin, and many older women, instead of influencing them to dress properly, encourage it by copying from them to make them appear younger. 🙄

That confirms that I was correct with the 'Bonus Question' from the pub quiz my older brother occasionally mentions to me in our regular exchanges of emails, about the iconic British Rock band whose name was inspired by a favourite 1930s song of the grandmother of the group's lead guitarist. Deep Purple was my answer although I have yet to receive the reply from my brother to say whether or not I was correct. I see your real name is Ravshan Alirzaev, if you don't mind my revealing that here and you're from Tashkent. I have a song, the music of which was composed by a composer from Tashkent at my KZitem channel, 'Mít aero a létat' ('To Have A Plane And To Fly'), sung by Valérie Čižmárová, for whom I run the Fan Blog 'Hotlips On The Horse Tram'. That composer was Yuri Antonov. I hope you enjoy that!

In this early rendition, @1:46 Marie's speaks instead of sings some of the vocals. That is the only difference between this version & the single version. Andy Williams was a guest on this show and coincidentally, when Donny & Marie (& the Osmonds) were guests on Andy's syndicated variety show later that same year, they also performed "Deep Purple". But this time it was the single version.

They did a nice job singing this, but they changed some key words. This song is about one person who has lost one love, not a bunch of lovers. The original line is; For as long as my heart will beat, sweet lover we'll always meet, here in my deep purple dreams. They sing; "sweet lovers will always meet, here in my deep purple dreams.", which doesn't really fit one person's, deep purple dreams.
