This is good advice, although i'd suggest actually saving at least some of those old paintjobs ast they are just for contrast later when you wanna see how much you have progressed

Absolutely, I also take pictures of my minis as well but there are a few that I’ll never repaint or strip

As someone who has painted minis off and on for 40 years I can tell you it's nice to see how your styles and techniques and skills change over time its like having your own time machine.

I never get rid of any of my artwork as you can learn from your previous mistakes and see your progress to becoming a better painter .

My creed is when I finish a miniature, its really never "finished". I've merely paused so I can work on other projects. I'll be touching it up and making improvements to it ad infinitum.

I agree. No sense in stripping your own minis, just move forward and look back at your early minis and admire how far you have advanced.

This video made me stop in my tracks for a minute. I just stripped down 3 Rhinos and a Vindicator I picked up cheap on Ebay. As a newbie too painting I look at some of my older Minis and cringe, but in a good way. Sometimes it's good to keep some old junk models around for the context of how far you've come. That LOTR clip was freaking HILARIOUS by the way lol

Thank you, I totally agree. It’s easy to get down on yourself in this hobby but seeing your old work can really give you perspective

I think stripping minis is fine if you want to unify a theme in an army. I.e. you painted 1 practice mini and didn't really work out the way you wanted. But in general im really proud of looking at my old minis (mostly dnd practice minis) and see where I've got

I recently bought 16 necrons from an eBay seller and I'm planning on stripping the paint but I'm keeping one of them as they are to honor that sellers work.

I thought this was a good video the bit at the front was really great! To offer a counterpoint I don't think that you should update your old mayonnaise unless it's within a very short time frame let them stay as they were for a point of reference in your growth as a miniature painter. That being said there is something that feels really good to have your army present in the way that you want it and updating the paint jobs as you suggested is a fantastic way to do that.

It would be good to put dates in the bottoms. Keep a few of all groups from your early days as a way to show and track your progress to new comers. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Okay but what if I bought some tyranids off ebay and they are painted so thick I should have used 20 c's to describe it?

Haha if you do strip. LA’s totally Awesome works very well and is safe for plastic and resin. I use it often
