I'm going to plant Double Gold's they sound great per your recommendation! I think the bee was attracted to your blue shirt mistaking it for a flower. I have blue hat, and other bright colors of clothing/hats I wear in my garden & the bumble's and honey bees check me out harmlessly, even a hummingbird once 😆. When they realize I'm no flower 🌺they move on.

Hi, you're doing a great job. A quick question: Do you have to worry about protecting your Anne Yellow Raspberries from squirrels?

That's great! We are in zone 6a and have JUST started eating our harvest of these a couple days ago. Love this time of year...and pretty sure you will also! ;-)

@Dad 2-4, You put manure on it... What kind of manure? Fresh, 2 years composted? I'm starting my first Yellow Raspberries tomorrow in Montréal!
@dad2-491

It was from our chickens. We hot composted it, which just means we would add water and turn it about each week. Apparently some good stuff! ;-)

@@dad2-491 I don't know what I've done, I've killed 3 new plants: 1 yellow raspberry, 1 red raspberry and one blackberry plant. I think I overwatered them. They started to get yellow, from bottom to up. I've tried to remove them from soil, mixing dry soil + sand. It was already too late...

@@alexandrevaliquette3883 I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, it almost sounds like they got too much water. Well, good news is, if you really want them for future harvests, you still have time to rebuy and restart. It's just a setback, not a defeat. :-)

so these don't grow taller than 4 foot?
@dad2-491

Possibly. Last year was the best that they have ever done so far. I believe they got a little over 4 feet, but not much. However there were SO many new shoots and fruit that we couldn't eat it all. So we ended up freezing some to make jam! I'm guessing with better soil conditions or a warmer climate, they could get larger. Just sharing my experience though,. Thanks for asking

I have Double Gold and I think to remove it. Cuz in my region (Primorsky krai) rain ruins the berry. We have too much rain. Berries looses its shape. But Mara De Bois is very nice, not so big but so delicious and high frost resistance.

It's crazy how much climates affect different fruits. The most important thing about growing fruits / vegetables is knowing what does well in our climates. I wish OH has warmer weather for my fig trees, but then my cherry trees might not get the chill hours they need to fruit. So I've learned to just be happy with what I have. 🙂

Very nice! Any experience with black currant? I have one that needs to be put in the ground but I’m not sure where exactly it should go.
@dad2-491

I actually have never tried growing black currant. I just know that they like full sun and rich, fertile soil that is well drained. Or you can grow it in a container if you don't have a space that fits those requirements. Hopefully that helps.

@@dad2-491 yes, that absolutely helps! Container it is until I can find a suitable place in the yard. 😎

I just got some double golds in the mail. And read here about the rain. I live in rainy Alaska. Will they not survive? Which ones do best in rain?

I ordered mine from Stark Bros years ago. I'm not sure, but I don't see why they wouldn't produce for you. Just my 2 cents though. :-)
