Wonderful to see the steam, but what a depressing sight in the foreground - empty platforms and weeds growing every where. Good catch, though, Phil.

Thanks Alan. Yes, a depressing sight, but alot better than a few weeks ago, when all the buddliea was 6 ft tall.

I can’t agree more. Many comment on this national disgrace. The approach to New Street features the Curzon St HS2 construction (agree or not!) but the Victorian arches are strewn with buddliea. Visually a disgrace and ramping-up the inevitable re-pointing bill. As ever, Network Rail foots the bill…ie, us! Superb filming as ever sir!

@@johnkennedy5528 Many thanks John. I agree with you too. Network Rail saving a bit of money today , by lack of maintenance or removing trees ,growing in the brickwork, which will cost alot more to repair when the damage is done. Only have to look at my local station, Northwich. Don't know if you heard ,but part of the roof and gable end collapsed onto the platfrom last year, narrowly missing waiting passengers. You only ad to look at the brickwork / roof to see trees growing out of it. See my video kzitem.info/news/bejne/qqKfuI2GrHqjhoY

@@philclarke3203 Forgive late response, Phil. The mindset is to 'Bleed the assets' (Wolmar's 'Broken Rails') as they did on initial privatisation. Take the profits/dividends supported by Taxpayer, then leave the debilitated infrastructure a masssive bill to the re-nationalised entity. It shames me being with international passengers viewing debris-strewn embankments. End of rant! Keep up the good work. v best - John

In 1992, no. 9 visited the Llangollen Railway. For some runs, the A4 was double-heading with my beloved Foxcote Manor. Talk about unusual pairings of two different steamies.😀

The reason for 45231 leading is because 4498 to haul a trip to York on Thursday so it's easier to have her already attached to the coaching stock when they get to Southall to save on complex shunting manovers in readiness for the trip.

Whether or not it was a general rule about the more powerful engine never being the lead when double heading, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that applied to the Duchesses. I can't remember seeing any double headers back in the 50s (and I saw a lot) where the leading engine was the more powerful.
